For me, literacy has always been a problem to this day I am still learning how to speak, and write using proper literacy. Literacy is not just reading and writing, anyone can do that but the ability to understand such things, to comprehend them that is, true literacy. My development for literacy has always been a struggle as I have spoken about before. I had a speak impediment when I was younger which used me to go into different classes which took me away from formal English classes. This continued into middle school where I was put into a special English class to work on our writing skills. During my duration here I saw very little growth if any, so I was entering high school with a reading and writing level of a 6th grader. I was then …show more content…
I worked very hard, but it was still tough I was maybe at a 7th grade writing level. This proven when I gave my teacher a paper, which she looked at it and then decided to hand, it back to me giving me a zero on the assignment. I did not understand, so I spoke with her and what she told me will stay with me forever, “this is terrible you had to right this last night, which is why you are getting a zero”. What she did not know is that I spent over a week on that paper before I handed it in. From that moment on, I know I had to work a lot harder than anyone did in my classes. That is exactly what I did. The people I have to thank are three people who have helped me learn and comprehend writing and reading. One is would spend time with me after school as I was dating her daughter, the other was my favorite teacher, if it was not for her I would not be here right now. The last is my older brother who would help me with my homework everyday if he had time from his own schoolwork and work. In college, I still struggle I knew I had to keep working when one of my professors had to tell me to work on my grammar. I went to the writing center and registered on North Star, a grammar website. I am still working on my grammar so my development continues. I was always able to read and write but being proficient using it is what is
I should have been opened up my eyes to reading and writing because I want to be a teacher, assistant. I always liked working with kids, and I will like to be a great assistant. Since there's no way to become a teacher assistant or even a teacher without having reading and writing skills, I will have to read and write more often. It is like King says "If you want to be a writer, you must do to things above all others: Read a lot and write a lot" (72, 73). If I want to be a teacher assistant or maybe a teacher one day I must ameliorate my reading and writing.
This assignment was one of the hardest paper we had to do in our quarter because, we had complete freedom on how we wanted to develop our topic. During the peer review I found out that I had done the assignment wrong and didn 't have a clear idea of what I wanted to project in my paper. I took a moment to decide what I wanted to say and started to change and remove sentences that weren 't necessary. On my first draft of my Literacy Narrative I made negative statements about my writing, which wasn 't the purpose of the assignment. After some time, I finally decided to write about my growth in writing and how I found another outlet for my creativity and where I consider myself to be good at.
At the moment now, I would say that my current literacy environment is sub par. This is because I am so busy all the time that it is hard to find time to sit down and read. I have school all day, then I go to basketball practice, and then I am too exhausted to read. I read Men’s Health every once in awhile. I try novels out and have read the entire Lord of the Rings series and The Hobbit in the past year.
In my literacy Narrative I will be tackling two problems. The first being my illiteracy in fanti, and the second being my struggle with speaking and pronunciation when I was little. I will be covering a small moment from preschool when I first started to struggle with pronunciation, and discuss how I fixed my english, but at the same time lost any linguistic connection I had to fanti. The second problem will more primarily be focused on in the introduction and conclusion, while the first will be the subject of my small moment. The defining moment any particular will be when my teacher talks to my parents, about me having a literacy problem with speaking english properly.
When I was a child, I always had to read paragraphs multiple times because I struggled with reading. This caused me to spend more time on reading than other children reading the same material. I thought I was stupid. Then one morning, my mother told me that I had dyslexia. Dyslexia causes reading and writing to require more energy and time.
I felt like i didn't need to learn how to read and write because nobody told me or showed me how important reading and write and learn how to articulate. When i started 5th grade the teacher
My teacher said she couldn’t get enough of my writing. I wanted to be proud of myself, but it left such a bittersweet taste in my mouth. Soon enough, people started coming to me from help on their work. I helped them with anything they needed. Over time, my peers began realizing their mistakes and begun to improve.
When I turned into a freshman, I decided to transfer to a deaf school for my high school years and graduated there. By then, my struggles with my writing and reading were improving by working hard. IN my freshman, there was an English teacher, Mrs. Copeland-Samaripa, a strict teacher I ever had seen and I failed this class once because of lack of my doing in homework and tests. I didn’t want to repeat the grade so I decided to work hard by studying notes for test and turned homework in on time.
Personal Literacy Narrative Reading and writing is a tool everybody needs in their lifetime the basic reading and writing skills are used on a daily base no matter what field you plan to study. Reading and writing are taught at a young age. I personally was taught by preschool I noticed on how I grew with my writing and how I became a better reader and writer throughout my life I personal love reading and writing it’s a way for everyone to express themselves through their choice of words. Everybody learns how to read and write differently some students tend to be stronger than others, personally speaking I feel I tend to be higher in reading then writing.
Reading and writing influence the way that I interact with the world. I learn new things from reading and writing, which in turn help me communicate with others because I am learning new facts and skills. My relationship with literacy is a very close one. It's helped me in many areas of my life, such as being more social. Without literacy in my life, I don't know what I'd do.
Literacy has applied over the course of my education and my life. As an education major, I believed that literacy was an ability to learn how to read and write. Furthermore, literacy has been a part of my education. I have come to an understanding that literacy is a lot more than what it seems. It’s about expressing yourself that includes your opinions and feelings.
But that confidence soon began to subside. In elementary school, we would have an annual test that determined whether a student can be placed in an advance or tutorial reading class, and every year I would be placed into the advance reading courses, so when it came time to take the test, I knew there wasn’t anything for me to worry about. And even though my score was one of the highest in the class, I still ended up in a reading tutorial class. I was a little taken aback by it, but it didn’t stop me from my love of reading and writing and plus I could switch out of those classes is I showed improvement. So I did my best to try and show that I didn’t need the extra help like some others did, but all my hard work went in vain
My personal literacy story might be considered as a short story. My literacy story stated very young with my mother and father reading me stories before I could read; some stories that were told to me were bible stories, Junie B Jones, Magic Tree house, and of course superhero comics. I began learning my letters from collecting fallen billboard letters. I eventually learned how to read and write at the end of Kindergarten. My favorite literature at that time was comic books.
Learning new skills in writing has assisted in so many over ways than just writing for school, it has helped in my career. Writing is such a beneficial trait to hold. I plan to improve day by day. I have so many opportunities available and plan to use to my full
Actually, if I’m being honest, my family sucks at writing. I was never placed in any special writing classes, but only the standard classes for school. I joined Intermediate composition to excel in my writing for my future. From this class, I’ve broadened my vocabulary and found new ways to check my pieces that I have wrote. I could always use more work with grammar because I have always struggled with that concept.
