I would like to start with a saying by William S. Burroughs ‘The aim of education is the knowledge, not of facts, but of values’. After an inspiring four-year course in Petroleum & Mining Engineering, I would like to use this knowledge to do my Masters in Science. As my undergraduate degree was theoretical in nature, I want to indulge myself in research. Studying masters at your revered university would give me the edge in technology and the practical experience and information I need to succeed. Today, man is culminating with technology and science. A master’s degree would be of prime importance with hands-on experience in real-time applications accompanied by in-depth knowledge of the subject. I got admitted to Shahjalal University Science and Technology, one of the reputed institutions in my country through an entrance exam & by merit. I took Petroleum & Mining Engineering as my major as it offered me many choices of specialization. I truly believe that knowledge is not what one is able to retain and reproduce on a sheet of paper. It is grasping of the complexities of the topic and founding a strong technical base that matters. At the start of my undergraduate studies, I did not focus as I wanted, I did not score well in my exams, I was lagging behind. After completing my second year second semester I started persevering more. I allocated much of my time to studies. I was so low in confidence that I never thought that I would be able to compete at the top. But my perseverance paid off in my final year when I was among the top 3 students and eventually I finished at 8th position in my department. Not only the results of my exams, my final year project was applauded by the head of the department and my supervisor. He also regarded me highly after seeing my
