Art is captivating! There is something about art that makes me want to create it. Looking at a piece of artwork makes me wonder how it came to be. I attempt my artistic adventures because it is all about the learning process. I have a drive for trying, even if I fail, I try again. Art has always been an interest in my life, however I never took it seriously until I went to State Fair Community College. My junior and senior year of high school I attended the graphic design program in Sedalia, Missouri at State Fair Community College’s Career and Technology Center. In the program, I learned how to use Adobe software programs such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver to design items such as print materials, signs, sublimation items, t-shirts, and basic web design. This knowledge has shown me that I can become a “designer,” and I want to pursue graphic design as a career. From there, I received college credit towards my graphic arts associate degree at State Fair Community College. I have been at State Fair Community College for three years working on my general education courses while still taking ample art classes. In the art classes, I have been working on a portfolio that shows a combination of artistic skills such as watercolor, design, drawing, sculpture, painting, and ceramics. My artistic achievements have allowed me to recognize my strong passion for art because it is a fascinating learning experience and I enjoy being able to challenge myself.

The Art in Education In first grade we had to draw a picture of what we would be doing 20 years from then. We had to draw what job we would have, what our hair would look like, what we would be wearing, and I chose to draw a picture of me drawing a picture. As a first grader I knew that my future would mirror what I was doing in that exact moment; I would still have curly hair, and I would still be an artist. Loudly proclaiming that I was going to be an artist when I grew up was ok in elementary school, but at the end of middle school it was often challenged with “but what are you really going to be?”
Everyone has their own criteria set when it comes to art. But art is subjective and the artist shows you their views and interpretations. Art is limitless. Our body, mind, and soul is the creation of art.
Growing in an arts-rich environment during students’ time in secondary school has benefits that extend to their higher education. High school students who had high levels of arts engagement were 19% more likely to aspire to college than were students with less arts engagement (Catterall 14). 71% of students with a low socioeconomic status who had arts-rich experiences attended some sort of college after high school, compared to only 48% of the low-arts students. 22% more high-arts students from the low socioeconomic group, compared with low-arts students in that group, attended a four-year college (10). Arts-engaged high school students enrolled in competitive colleges at a 15% higher rate than did low arts-engaged students (15).
With practice and patience, I actually started to enjoy drawing. I took an art class as my elective and I thought that this would be my future. I thought I finally found myself, but problems started to show. From family problems to losing friends. Losing friends took a deep toll on my life because I’ve never experienced this feeling before.
Before coming to Full Sail University, I had encountered many obstacles. One in particular placed so much doubt inside my mind and made me question if this was what I truly wanted to do, or who I wanted to become. Should I leave my family that is grieving over our loved one or do I follow my dreams that my grandmother wanted me to do? This was the hardest decision of my life, and I was torn in two each day that passed I know that both of you have doubts about this career choice, because you don’t see what it does and can do for me. What I’ve faced is similar to her, yet different as well this female artist started at the bottom and slowly worked her way to the top.
This spawned an inevitable future. By drawing stories that had already been written I started to then make my own stories and characters. Drawing became part of my identity. Both in my family and at school I was identified as an “artsy kid.”
Art, the expression of human ability or imagination. Art is usually expressed visually, but should not only be limited to what you see, It can also be what you hear, or how a piece of art makes you feel. Art is timeless and today we still can appreciate work that was done many years ago. My favorite artist is Ed Roth. He was an artist, cartoonist, illustrator, pinstriper and custom car designer.
During my job shadow with Ms. Eileen Chalupa on Doane’s Campus I learned how to be creative, come up with my own style of graphic designing, and most importantly to never give up or lose hope on a project that someone has asked for. Her job is the head graphic designer at Doane University. Some questions that I asked her during the job shadow were what are some positive aspects and negative aspects of working as a graphic designer, are the hours flexible for the job and another question I asked was what training did she do to get ready for this type of work and if it required any type of education to complete. One of the reasons she chose this career was because her mother went through the desktop publishing program at Southeast Community
Artwork is what gives our life much more flavor to it. Life without art would be dull, and lackluster. Everything would be so basic, bare, and simple. Creativity is what really makes artwork amazing. People really enjoy some artists artwork, and are very passionate about it.
Working with children is a great passion of mine. Supporting children and watching them develop is my main aim as I think being responsible for the healthy development of small children is both rewarding and a personal achievement. My passion to work with children came from my only nephew a few years ago when he was born. Helping him walk and teaching him to speak was a huge accomplishment for me knowing I am helping him through his early years in preparation for nursery.
It was fun making our own art before looking at real art. Than again, anything can be art. Walking into the art gallery felt like a total mood change. Upon walking into the gallery, it was quiet, the lighting had dimmed and all you heard was footwork. Theme dictates the placement of all artwork in the gallery.
