My own experience from school when I was a pupil myself is that the combination of textbook and workbook ruled. It was not until my first practical teacher training period that I came across alternative teaching material in the English classroom. My tutor did not use coursebooks; she put together her own themes for the pupils and only chose material from authentic texts such as magazines, newspapers, the Internet etc. I was so inspired by this that I decided to make my own teaching material for my last practical training period. The whole procedure was very time-consuming, but it was definitely worth it. I enjoyed it and the evaluation I received gave mainly positive feedback from my pupils.
Teachers have a lot of opportunities to include

The famous linguist, Stephen Krashen’s theory of second language acquisition has influenced the development of integrated instructions at all levels. The teacher should incorporate meaningful activities where students can enhance both language and content skills. She should design lesson plans which cater the needs of the students, and it should be flexible enough to fulfill the demanding needs of the students. I believe that lesson plan is the raw material, and it should be drafted by the warmth and love of the students ' interests and mental capabilities. Teachers should incorporate creative as well as inspirational activities for the better understanding of the material. For example, vocabulary should be taught in context rather than individually. I believe that this is a wonderful strategy because it will be easier for ELLs to retain meanings for a longer time. Moreover, learners can understand the concepts of semantics, syntax, and can use vocabulary in daily life conversation. I really like the idea of Cloze Procedure that will be helpful to students by providing context clues or choosing the words from the list, and fill up the blanks in the appropriate context. These strategies help students to hone language and content
I think this unit was great and in all honesty should have been longer. We covered so many important topics that should be discussed with High School students to prepare them for the future. I think it helped me open up more to things that I didn’t really know about beforehand. The discussions that we had in class were also another very helpful tool that we should have had more of during the unit. I definitely had some preferences on the books that we read this semester.
Some students actually buy those books for their classes, some students rent them from the bookstore and other students get them from online retailers, which is less expensive. However, not all the teachers take topics from the books after the semester start neither during the semester. There is no point to buy books if the teacher is not going to take topics from there and there is no reason for students to buy a textbook and spent money that could have a better use of. Having a textbook and actually using it in this class (ENG102) was very
Another feedback was gathering students attention effectively; something I know but am scared to implement in such a well behaved class. The feedback I feel will help me improve my teaching to become a better teacher, to effectively
Personally, I really enjoy the sizes of the classes. I have never had a class with over twenty-five students in it. Brebeuf doesn 't shy too far away from twenty-five. I also thought the way the “free blocks,” were set up was interesting. I thought it was neat how the student got to choose what they were going to do with that time.
Another technique I learned is to create good classroom procedures and rules. Having good procedures and rules will allow the students to know what I expect in the classroom and the class will run fluently. I also learned about motivation in students. We discussed certain strategies that we can use as an educator to increase motivation in the classroom. Some strategies that I will use in my classroom are; to use rewards sparingly, make my students feel welcomed, be positive, use praise orally, promote mastery learning, and use clear and constructive
The knowledge I gleaned from this activity resulted in a more tailored and focused learning experience for my students which met them where they were instead of assuming what they did or didn’t know. My lessons were more appropriate for the learning environment as a result of giving a pre-test and at the end of the unit both the students and I will be able to have tangible proof that our time was not wasted. Learning occurred and this pre-assessment allows us to prove
What are the weaknesses of this assessment tool? It is critical that observations be free of bias and objective, a skill that needs to be developed and can be a challenge for some teachers. • How do you use the results of the assessment? Repetition and multiple opportunities for learning are important for all children, so offering different activities for learning concepts and skills benefit all children, there is no negative impact when providing activities that support skills repeatedly.
It is a viable tool for addressing the maximum participation of the child and can be a catalyst to ensure effective learning. Effective teachers use an array of teaching strategies because there is no single, universal approach that suits all situations. Different strategies used in different combinations with different groupings of students will improve learning outcomes. Some strategies are better suited to teaching skills and fields of knowledge than others. Some strategies are better suited to certain student backgrounds, learning styles and
The United States is a place of freedom. We are a mixing pot that unifies as one. Many religions, cultures, and languages make their home in the Unites States. Many foreigners see the U.S. as an opportunity to seek better lives and education, but when it comes to foreigners and native-born non-English speakers that do not yet know English, it becomes a little more difficult to go about an average day let alone make a better future. Children in school often become English Language Learners, or ELL, to assimilate to the American standards.
I also had parental involvement in mind as well. It is very important that parents are aware of the challenges that occur inside the classroom. The book has left a positive impression on me and I feel like I have taken a lot of useful information from the book that I can one day apply to my own
Hence, the bilingual pre-service educators' profile and training were crucial in terms of motivation, creativity and the lesson planning itself. During this bilingual implementation, it was evidence how the bilingual educators' behavior in terms of their charisma and compromise affected children's motivation. If children perceived that the bilingual educators were taking part of the activities by modeling, singing and dancing enthusiastically, they were more engaged and eager to participate in the activities proposed. Also, in the observations it was noticed that the emergent bilinguals were engaged through longer periods of time when they were exposed to colorful and creative material, as well as kinesthetic activities. Though their attention span may be extended at times and activities may vary in nature; it is recommended to follow a scheme of a settling and then a stirring activity where the layout is modified, given that they may get bored when sitting in the same position for longer periods of
The students were highly engaged. I could say that the concepts to be learn were explicitly linked to ELLs’ background experience and past learning. I listened to the teacher’s speech and voice projection, it was appropriate (not too slow, not too fast), and she emphasized the importance of being respectful/active listeners. She ensured that each students had sufficient time to respond to her questions, and clarify if a student seemed confused (regarding the objectives). As the students did the group work, Mrs. Carbone foster noticing.
I felt that the children were very well behaved than most children. It was a bit shocking. All of them were extremely respectful of their teacher. I am excited to continue observing this class the next couple weeks. Being in an actual classroom makes me super excited for my
It provides the most effective learning condition which is the gap between what the learners can and cannot do without help in the ZPD. When planning the scaffold, a teacher should consider the designed-in scaffold, where the teacher has to plan before a teacher and the interactional contingent which is the situation in the classroom context. The teacher can provide the scaffold to learners during listening and speaking class to help the learners to decode and meaning build the sound they heard. A teacher who is not able to provide suitable scaffolding in the classroom is not able to motivate the learners to learn because the lesson may be either too simple or too difficult for the learners to learn. In conclusion, a “good” language teacher should be able to plan, select and sequence the activities to provide the suitable challenge and scaffold for learners to learn
I participated in several school meetings. After working with students in small groups, I evaluated my mini lesson for student improvement. My students were able to work independently, collaboratively, and utilize feedback from other peers. This taught me to reflect on advantages and disadvantaged of the lessons
