A. There are several significant discussion points and topics that I want to address with my site supervisor about my interactive presentation. My goal is for faculty, administrators, and parents to understand the importance and need for school counselors according to the Missouri Comprehensive and Guidance Counseling Program. I want to ask my supervisor what she believes are the most important roles and responsibilities of a school counselor that I should include and incorporate into my presentation. I will consult multiple resources in order to create my presentation. One source is the Missouri Comprehensive and Guidance Counseling Program manual. This will allow me to review the various components of the MCGCP model and provide important information and vocabulary to include in my presentation. A second source that I will consult is the American Association for School Counselors website. This website provides a wealth of information regarding the roles and responsibilities of the school counselor. I will consult with my supervisor to address any issue or concerns I have regarding my presentation as well as consult her for any idea or advice on what I should include in my presentation to make it interactive and informative for my audience. She challenges me to always put forth my best effort and to do my very best. She has many great ideas and provides constructive feedback to ensure that my work is the best quality. I can incorporate the feedback into my presentation and make adjustments where necessary. Another source that I will consult is fellow colleagues who have already completed this presentation in order to generate ideas and receive feedback on how to make my presentation successful. My hope is that they will be able to provide me with techniques to engage my audience and build rapport. While interviewing school counselor, Melissa Gomes from Friendship Southeast Elementary Public Charter School, I was able to obtain a lot of information pertaining to a school counselor’s profession. Although, I have acquired plenty of information about a school counselor occupation throughout the last year and half of attending Trinity, the interview was very beneficial and knowledgeable. The counselor I plan to interview for my final project is Ms. T, a Mental health counselor in Virginia. Relevant Information Ms. T Is a Licensed Professional counselor, with a Master’s degree in Arts. Specialties in which Ms. T treats includes: Trauma and PTSD, Anxiety, Marital and Premarital issues. In addition to her specialties, she also treats addiction, Borderline personality, Codependency, Coping skills, depression, divorce, sexual abuse suicidal ideation and Women’s issues (smith,2015n.d.). Ms. T also counsels adolescents from ages 14 to 19 and adults.
Bethany Hill once stated, “Every child you pass in the hall has a story that needs to be heard, maybe you are the one that needs to hear it.” That quote works because the person might have trouble at home and they might need a counselor to almost let a burden off of their shoulders and tell their story to. Some of the reasons Career Cruising chose being a school counselor for me because I like training and teaching, working with children and providing advice. I am most interested in pursuing a career as a school counselor because of its likeable working conditions, straightforward responsibilities and simple career preparations.
Counselors will give attention to their students that they are assigned to. This in turn will allow the counselor to evaluate the student’s performance and communicate with the student if any issues arise. (Jerald, Craig) By having this accountability, the students can realign their focus thus increasing graduation rate. Furthermore, racial and ethnic diversity provides the opportunity to enrich cultural knowledge.

Like other professions in the mental health field and helping professions, counseling typically attracts those who are imbued with a need to help others, to make a difference in others’ lives, the community around them and sometimes even the world. There are many facets to a counselor and to counseling, some of which take on personal attributes such as personality, the values and beliefs held by counselors, and what they perceive their role in the counseling profession to be. Other facets involve ethical considerations in therapy, the importance of the profession, the value and process of change, important counseling practices and the value of necessary self-care a counselor ought to engage in. The role of a counselor is to act as a conduit to change and wellbeing in a client.
Additionally, as a counselor, it is important to be genuine with whatever feedbacks one presents to the patient and what one believes regarding the situation of the client. Mrs. Perez believes the more authentic and genuine he is with her patients, the more help he will be able to offer the clients. As a counselor, it is important to have a fine and professional interaction with one 's client but boundaries must be maintained. Through this, a counselor is able to demonstrate their focus on helping the patients by showing the client that they understand their problems. It also through such engagements that counselor is able to use the non-judgmental attention that does not require words for illustration in helping the patient.
When I decided to train to become a professional school counselor, I knew I had a long road ahead. I am trained to be a teacher, a special education teacher to be specific, and though I will be able to use much of my past experience as a classroom teacher in my school counseling practice, I am aware that I will also need to see my students in a new way, a more holistic way. I will need to focus not only on what works in the classroom, but what works in order to motivate and support the students with whom I meet. It is essential for me to determine what will drive me, inspire me to be the best school counselor for both my school and students, therefore, I must determine my professional philosophy of education and school counseling and develop my beliefs, vision and mission statements.
Some components of teacher efficacy include: developing an organized classroom environment that is supportive of positive and meaningful learning, positive beliefs and development of instructional activities in different domains of learning, engaging the involvement of parents and sourcing resources needed for learning tasks, and redirecting negative influences that may affect the flow of the academic accomplishments of students (Marat, 2007, para. 3). A strategy that can be utilized by administrators in assisting teachers in developing a high degree of teacher efficacy involves providing information on the relevance of learning in students lives. This strategy of providing information on the relevance of learning in the lives of students would be undergirded by a series of workshops that would expose teachers to components of quality and effective learning, the nature of the pubescent child, the role of culture in the process of assimilation and equilibration and how learning can be developed and supported by positive self-beliefs among students with low-self image. Workshops would be conducted for three hours per week and would involve a reflective component where teachers selected for this

In this semester, I have been exposed to the subject of Introduction to Guidance and Counselling which is a new field of study for me. After I have received this lesson, I can relate my experiences with what I have learned. Not only that, I also have different perspective towards after I learned this subject.
