I chose My QuitBuddy app because it’s recommended by many smokers on Play store who said that this app helped them stop smoking. It is also very easy to use and contains scientific facts about the effects of cigarette smoke on our organs and it also provides useful quit tips. Moreover, it counts the smoke-free days and the amount of money that could be saved after a certain period of quitting. I engaged with this app three times a day (after meals) because that is when I usually have my cigarette and I spend 15 minutes each time reading about the negative effects of smoking explained by the app. I gave the app a DISCERN score of 48 which means there are some shortcomings, such as not mentioning when the information used was produced, not referring …show more content…
This app makes me aware of my susceptibility to illness and severity of illness because half of smokers will die of a smoking-related disease such as lung cancer which causes death in many cases. In addition, it provides information about benefits and costs of health behaviors. For example, in 5 years of quitting, my risk of a stroke has dramatically decreased but there are possible withdrawal symptoms that can be hard to cope with. This app provokes positive emotional responses by showing me how my health is improving with each passing smoke-free day. It also elicits negative emotional responses by presenting information on risks associated with smoking such as cancer. This is a good idea as it keeps me away from cigarettes because it raises my awareness of the risks of smoking and the benefits of …show more content…
First, this app does not assess willingness to quit and it is very important to do so as it determines whether the individual is at the contemplation stage (Acknowledging the problem but not sure wanting to change) or the preparation stage (The individual is ready to change) of the Transtheoretical Model (TTM).Second, it does not assess nicotine dependence ( use of Fagerstrom score) and that is significant to get the individual out of the pre-contemplation stage of TTM when he has not even acknowledged the problem as he will eventually acknowledge it once he knows that he is nicotine-dependent. Third, this app does not provoke very strong negative emotional responses by providing pictures of people who have lung cancer, mouth cancer or other forms of cancer that are caused by smoking. These pictures raise the risk perception of individuals and enhance their motivation to quit
Undisputedly phones have quickly become indispensable objects which dominate our daily lives, leading to both addiction and dehumanized lives. However, many Americans during pressing times of the covid pandemic truly believe phones have had a positive impact on their life, as “59% of respondents agreed that their phone has been their lifeline during the pandemic, and a similar number say that it has kept them from feeling isolated and lonely” (Klaviyo). Compared to Victory Gin, phones can be a positive driving factor by connecting individuals, whereas alcohol only takes the pain away temporarily and ultimately brings the intoxicated back to their original state, if not worse. Although phones do have a constant presence in our lives does not mean that their presence is entirely harmful. Phones possess nearly endless abilities, the impact a phone has is entirely dependent on the actions of its user, not on the device.

Overall, this method has not helped much. Smoker have not disappeared but have been displaced. In summary, Cigarettes should continue to be legal because it prevents the need for contraband tobacco, keeps kids from using it to a minimum, and countries that have banned it affect the users. We need to keep them regulated and slowly campaign people to stop smoking.
Focus for PHE and Preventive Practice Based on the PHE tool used, it was identified that the patient is a longtime smoker and smokes 2-15 cigarettes per day. Although it is beyond standard practice in the CRU, this became the focus for this patient. Specific Actions Taken Due to the patient’s history of cancer, smoking cessation was discussed with the patient. Evidence-Based Nursing Interventions Nurses working in oncology are in a unique position to help patients quit smoking during a time when motivation is usually higher and patients are more willing to quit (Cooley, Sipples, Murphy, and Sarna, 2008). It is estimated that if each nurse helped one smoker quit per year, the quit rate would triple but this can only be achieved through the
Although the effort to try and eliminate conventional smoking for good is obvious, the way some people go about this elimination is not as safe as they want to think. Among the abundant ways these people have tried to disregard the fateful habit of cigarette smoking, the one that has shown up progressively more throughout the years is the electronic cigarette. Since the electronic cigarette does not use burning tobacco as a means of getting their dose of nicotine, the unconventional cigarette is hailed as being much safer by several unknowing minds. While the electronic cigarette could be useful for stopping the use of the conventional cigarette, the damage this unconventional cigarette is capable of can be even greater than a regular cigarette

Existing applications that promote smoking cessation are able to track down one’s cigarette consumption through user input. However, the accuracy of such cannot be assured, since details are keyed in by the users themselves. Moreover, quitting smoking is not an easy task, especially in the absence of family support. The proposal SmokeOut aims to tackle the above-mentioned issues by keeping track of one’s carbon monoxide level via a detector. It also comes with a smartphone application that enables accurate monitoring of daily cigarette consumption.
