Sometimes in life bad things happen, before good things can (Becca Fitzpatrick, 2014) as my reflective diary will be illustrating. This dairy will be a journey through my teenage years where I had a very low self-esteem, which is a common factor that one can easily encounter in life. This term includes a wide range of principles about people, such as the assessment of one’s own appearance, beliefs, feelings and attitudes. Self-esteem influence our trust, dignity, respect and most of all our lives. “It’s the people thoughts and feeling, the grades you’ll get, your friends and family how they treat you, your ups and downs; these all can have an impact on how you feel about yourself”. (Texas, 2013) Different Types of Self-esteem
Healthy and High self-esteem
Individuals with a healthy self-esteem are more likely to be honest, open and have a better way to communicate with others. People with high self-esteem are confident, happy, self-caring, trustworthy and independent. On the other hand, sometimes these types of people take advantage of this, and tend to bully others who have a lower self-esteem, thus making others people lives a misery.
Poor and Low self-esteem
On the other hand people with low self-esteem tends to interrupt their communications with others, therefore making them more close-centred persons resulting in less friendship. This issue will result in hiding their abilities, skills and even sometimes can lead to mental problems or even worse, to fatal incidents like suicides. A person with low self-esteem is a person with a very sensitive character and a little bit of worry can destroy his/her entire life.
How does self-esteem
One must choose wisely and continually combat the world’s messages because self-image can set the stage for one’s entire life. Grealy’s struggles with self-esteem reveal the fluidity of one’s self-image. A confident young girl can evolve into an insecure teenager or adult because of a new circumstance or the damaging words of others. Grealy does not disclose extensive details about her life or sense of self-image before cancer, but a few brief scenes paint a picture of Grealy that only accentuates the deterioration of her self-esteem.
For example, if someone emplaces the idea that one is overweight in one’s head, one is going to possibly take that into account when looking in the mirror. Self-concept is also said to contribute to how we may behave in the future by setting up goals that reflect our opinions of ourselves. In some instances, individuals may believe that they will be a successful doctor and, because of that self-concept, it becomes reality. This is known as self-fulfilling prophecies. Self-esteem is the worth of what one takes from one’s self-awareness and self-concept.
When a person feels insecure they often try and take problems into their own hands to make others fail or look terrible, and this seems to make
The second concept I liked was self-esteem. Self-esteem is always a big issue to a lot of people. Self-esteem is the component of personality that encompasses our positive and negative self-evaluations. People can have high self-esteem in one are and low self-esteem in another area. Some people have low self-esteem just sometimes when they get down.

Have you ever tried to bolster a child’s self-esteem by saying “You can be anything you want when you grow up”? What if you knew that in today’s society, saying this would increase disappointment; thus faltering a child’s self-esteem later on in life. Author Leslie Garrett, who wrote the article “You Can Do It, Baby!” in 2015, talks about the common phenomena of hindering a child’s opportunity of finding satisfaction in life, by encouraging them that they will grow up to be anything they want, without limitations. Garrett utilizes rhetorical devices to promote the emotional and logical perspectives supporting her claim; however, she incorporates a handful of in-text citations from scholars, psychiatrists, and academic professionals in order to persuade the reader of the article’s credibility.
It is the decision made by an individual as an attitude towards the self. Possessing little self-regard can lead people to become depressed, to fall short of their potential, or to tolerate abusive situations and relationships. Too much self-love, but, results in an off-putting sense of entitlement and an inability to learn from failures. no other self-help topic has spawned so much advice and so many theories. Here are our best insights on how to strike a balance between accurate self-knowledge and respect for who you are.
There are a few links between an individual’s identity, self-esteem and self-image. An individual’s identity is them, their age, their name, ethnicity and background, their family, also their language and education. Their self-esteem means how much they actually value themselves and lastly their self-image is how they view themselves or see themselves. If they have no identity, for example if they are afraid of how others might see them this links to a low self-esteem which can lead to social isolation and/or they might suffer from depression, then their self-image may then suffer such as they forget to look after their personal appearance, hygiene and how they used to dress. On the other hand if they are happy and confidence with their identity then the individual is most likely to look after themselves and their personal image more such as the way they look, dress, eat healthily and exercise etc.
This is a summary of my learning whilst being on the foundation degree. I am finally at the end of my counselling degree and I think this has been my biggest accomplishment to date, alongside raising my boys. I have learned such a lot about myself and gained a better insight into how and why I relate to others the way I did and still do. In my PDP presentation, I talked about client work, supervision, peers, Personal development group, and personal therapy so I will just summarise these in this essay.
Erik Erikson considered his psychosocial theory of development as unfolding in a sequence of eight stages through lifetime. Each stage has its particular goals, concerns, achievements and dangers (Woolfolk, 2017). While a person goes through every single stage, he or she faces a new psychosocial crisis. According to Erikson, the crisis can be resolved adopting an extreme position or finding a balance between the extreme responses. In fact, when a person resolves the psychological crisis in certain stage, he or she is able to enter to the next stage.
Describe self-concept. Everyone develops a perception of their personal weakness, strengths, and other characteristics that essentially make them who they are, which is also known as a self-concept (2012). Self-concept is defined as ideas that a person has, thoughts and beliefs about themselves and the feedback and reactions of other people. An individual’s self- concept is the core of his personality.
People with low self-esteem don’t see the positive in their life, but only the negative. They may prefer to stay home not to meet people. I believe bullies pick on others because they lack confidence and are insecurity with
The causes of low self confidence and low self esteem are extremely complex and varied. Many if not all o these roots arise during childhood. This ranges from everything from bullying in school, a shy personality (which unfortunately is discouraged in many western scieities) to parents who may be struggling with their own low self confidence or mental illness. Childhood trauma and abuse are also significant causes of low self esteem and mental illness.
I spend a significant amount of time just thinking about myself as I go throughout my day. I constantly question myself: why am I the way that I am, what could I have done better here, what is my place in the world, etc. In the context of this paper, I have come to a conclusion. In the past, I was a leader. Now, I realized I have failed.
