The structure of coursework improved my writing skills. In one experience, my peer editing session explained that my childhood story showed a simple and clear writing style, but it wasn’t concise. This feedback forced me to evaluate my story and see in what ways it could be concise along with other writing tools that I incorporated. I realized from the experience that this was the first time I focused purely on improving my writing skills rather than understanding the course content. The course enabled me to confront my weaknesses in writing that I couldn’t in other academic classes.
Writing is involved in the mechanics everything people do including school studies, employment applications, and recording thoughts. However, even though writing is so important and commonly used, unlike speaking or picking up the lyrics to one’s favorite song, writing needs to be learned in order to be done properly. While the New Dorp school system is a far to common example of a underfunded school that lacked in the writing department even after its reforms despite making real progress, I was fortunate enough to learn from a high school that provided me with the highest standard of writing teaching. By having weekly assignments, personalized meetings, and difficult readings, my high school graduates leave with the skillset needed to write well in all aspects of their
However, I have somewhat grasped what it means to writing purposefully and academically. This class has also prepared me for what I assume will be my future profession, law. The best lawyers are masters of persuasion by utilizing the available knowledge that is accessible to them. This class has solidified many skills I had lacked. Throughout this year, my writing skills are quite better with some areas that I still must work
During this semester, the peer review sessions have been most helpful, and especially helpful when paired with students who are more knowledgeable than I. Moreover, when going into these peer review sessions, most of the time I had a very rough draft of the assigned essay, but after the session, I knew exactly which steps I needed to take to improve my work. Additionally, when polishing my papers I would turn to the tutor before making the peer review suggested changes, but in retrospect, I now realize that I should make the suggested amendments first and then turn it into a tutor for
Writing is one of my many concerning in my PhD program. Every time when it comes to writing I feel nervous and stressed. I actually I used to love writing in my first language and I was good at it. Nevertheless, writing in English is another experience and quite difficult. To be honest I tried to avoid the class at first time, even though we have to do writing in other classes.
So I practiced, a lot, and I believe that helped me. I remember coming home and I would practice writing words together and try my hardest to stay between the lines and make sure my letters were straight. Within time my handwriting did get better, but like I said it took time. I believe what the authors Graham has to say; the way you write affects the type of writer you are. I absolutely hated writing, why?
I struggled a lot with that lesson because I was so used to my old ways that I did not want to learn that actual right ways. I eventually got over my stubbornness and learned the rules for where to put the apostrophe. The knowledge in this course has helped me write my research paper for other college class, Dual General Psychology. The knowledge I learned from this class I used a lot to help me write my research paper in there. I think without the knowledge from this class I would not have done as well as I did on that paper.
Every time I type or write, I tend to miss out most of the punctuation in my paper. But however, I would love to learn from my weaknesses and turn them into my strengths. In conclusion, taking Advanced Writing class will help me improve the areas of my strengths and weaknesses that I need to focus on. I would like to receive a score above the twenties on the ACT, which is the national average. By being above the average, more of the colleges are most likely to accept me as their
Through my educational career, I’ve been a successful writer. I received high marks on my papers because I followed the rubrics and was eloquent. I loved complex sentences that strung my thoughts together, used adjectives to detail my stances and showcased research with commas and lists. My writing style was not conducive to public relations writing. This course required me to embrace the opposite of what I was used to and almost relearn how to write for public relations.
