Essay A. TTU. Attitude. Discipline. Value of Life. These are definitely tenets to live by. It was only yesterday that I graduated from high school with a head full of dreams, ready to start a journey abroad. It was only yesterday that I decided to study engineering because I truly want to create something that impacts the world in ways every single human can feel different or better in some way. I realize now, that after two years in the United States, I am a completely different person. And Time. Flies. By. Life lessons and experiences learned day by day during this time shaped me, and helped me see the world in a completely different way. And these tenets I mention, have been central to my growth. As a teenager who had everything in life, I had an attitude. I was full of myself. My parents always gave me more than what I really deserved, and I thought I could do basically anything. I had no fear whatsoever of getting into trouble. When I decided to leave the country to attend college, everything changed for me. Not only did I experience life alone in a different country, with a different culture and a different language, but also I had to embrace humility in order to make new friends. Coming from a third world country where two-thirds of the population are indigenous, I grew up valuing and respecting differences in religion, race, and class. Because of my upbringing, I embrace diversity and see it as opportunity for enrichment. However, humility gained importance in my life these past two years, as fostering new relationships involved letting my guard down and letting people in. I met so many people from so many different places that I learned not to judge. I have no idea what people have been through, and life is difficult enough as it is.
