While attending The University of Mississippi Desoto, I have many goals. During my first year the three goals that I have set for myself are to maintain a great grade point average, volunteer in the community, and to help other students with studying. I think all three of these goals are necessary to both be successful and to be self-fulfilled. Maintaining a high grade point average is very important to me. I am my harshest critic. Good grades are the reward for hard work. Putting the time and effort into studying and homework is not only a responsibility as a student, but a sign of respect for the professors. In life things are not handed to you. It is necessary to put a true effort forth, be determined, and strive for excellence to be successful. My field of study is Social Work and it is important to know the challenges and programs available within the community. There are many benefits to volunteering. The best way to find the unreached needs in your community is to be a part of it. I am hoping that volunteering will help me make a decision about a career choice. I am not sure if I want to work with children, the elderly, veterans, the poor, victims of abuse, the homeless, or a combination of them all. Being a part of different programs will give me a clearer understanding as to where the greatest needs are and where I feel the most

Grades are extremely important, especially in junior year of high school because it is an opening for greater opportunities in the future. My first priority of excelling in school. I am currently number 13 in my class out of 362 students. This means I challenge myself with rigorous courses by taking AP, UCONN, and honors classes. Being accepted into this program I will prove how I am a dedicated, hardworking individual and serious about getting the most out of my education.

I want to be a recipient of the Delta Sigma Theta Chapter of East Point/College Park because I believe i exhibit the values of what Delta Sigma Theta was founded on. I also have always considered being a Delta or get an opportunity to be in something as great as a Delta Sigma Theta program. My goals include be accepted into a college or university, obtain as many scholarships as I can, and graduate with honors. Currently, I have been accepted into approximately eight schools and most offered scholarlship amounts that vary.

The feeling of fulfillment and reassurance that is gained when successfully helping someone out with their problems or struggles is a great thing. Not only does it help with others' problems, but it also helps with an increase in well-being and self-esteem. There are a multitude of ways to help others, including certain jobs. I like the idea of being able to help and provide for others. With that being said, I’ve chosen Athletic Trainer, Firefighter, and Homicide investigator as a couple of jobs to talk about.
As a young child I was always fascinated with education since I was raised by parents who were not able to finish their education. At that young age the only goal I had was finishing high school and go to college. I didn’t think much of my goals until I realized that there was more than just going to going to college and getting my diploma. When I first viewed Wichita State’s campus I realized that I wanted to be part their campus by participating in clubs and joining a sorority. I wanted to make a difference in the campus by meeting new people.
My reasons for wanting to serve Peace Corps Volunteer are personal and intellectual. First of all, I want to share the knowledge I have acquired throughout my life by making myself available and becoming part of something bigger. I’ve had the opportunity to attend school and I recently completed a graduate degree; this has been a great accomplishment not only for me, but for my family as well. I enjoyed listening to others and helping them through difficult times. Pursuing a career in social work will allow me to broaden my skills and support the underprivileged in the community. Social work means supporting my community and discovering ways to educate and give resources to those that are in need. I believe my strengths include patience during a stressful situation, organization when trying to remain balanced, and empathy while helping someone through a difficult time.
Essay One: The Dispossessed by Ursula K. LeGuin The extent that grades have on hindering the ability to learn is discussed in Ursula K. LeGuin’s The Dispossessed, in which Shevek a college professor is troubled by the importance placed on the grading system as a mark of understanding of a subject at the university he recently started teaching at. One of the first points to be made is that understanding what you were taught isn’t the point of schools anymore, it’s about memorizing the information for a test or assignment. Second, is that achieving high marks in school doesn’t always equate intelligence or lack of it . Lastly, it’s not how well one is able to memorize what they are taught, but how they’re able to take that information, process and apply it to real world problems that shows the extent of one’s true education.
Some of the duties that I have supported while doing community service include preparing meals, accessing community resources, guiding these individuals to different low-income programs that they might qualify for, and helping my local pantry, among other duties. Doing community service has not only been a way to get hands-on experience in the social work field. It has also helped me gain meaningful and effective experience that I believe has significantly prepared me for real-world work as a prospective social worker. Given the opportunity to join the program, it will allow me to further develop and reinforce my experience in this rewarding

According to my survey, half of my classmate had participated in volunteering services.
1. In the summer of 2017, I volunteered once a week for 6-8 weeks with an organization called The First Tee, which works with youth to teach them life skills via the game of golf. Starting as young as 5-6 years old, the participants learn to play golf and develop their skills in the sport, but a large aspect of the organization’s mission is to teach children life skills such as integrity, honesty, and responsibility. Through golf they learn to be courteous to those around them and to always act with integrity as well.
Volunteering is a way of helping others. It is giving a person 's time and ability to help someone who may be in need of help. Not only does volunteering help others, but what they may not know is that it can be helpful to themselves. It is a great way for someone to interact with others in their community. It gives someone that time to themselves while also creating bonds when they are doing the greater good.
