For using a bigger vocabulary I can learn new words and I can also find synonyms for words I already know and make them sound better. The interview question essay was a good strategy of learning more about character and details about their life and how you can add more detail. My goals will help me become a stronger reader and writer in language arts. They will also help me improve on my weaknesses and become better on my strengths.
The comments from my instructor, the online material, my research, the online writing center and comments from other students in the discussion boards have helped me so much to improve my writing skills. In the writing process, the step that I feel I have improved a lot is editing, as I am constantly reading my writings and editing them as I finish them, over and over again before I publish them. The steps in the writing process that I like the most are finding a topic in the Pre-writing step and Drafting. I like having a lot of ideas floating around and think about which idea is the best and the most exciting topic to talk about.
When I write I prefer little or no interruptions or distractions, and I want somewhere that provides privacy and quietude. I wish to be immersed in my work and have all of my thoughts and ideas fill the page. I want the words I write to have an impact on the reader. In my writing workspace, I want to have all the materials that I need at my disposal. As I write, I want to be organized, so I can write effectively and efficiently.
Over this semester, my writing is better than before because I can express my thought clearer and more logical. The thing that helps me make my ideas clearer is the discussion during SAGES seminars. Each time before I started talking, I always went through the words in my mind so that I could prevent stumbling over words. When I agreed or disagreed with an idea, I first thought about my arguments and in the end concluded my thoughts in a sentence.
My motivation for self-improvement reflected my fascination with the course content. I was excited to learn about new information that taught me new writing tools I applied to my stories. For example, once I learned of passive and active sentences, the subject-verb-object sentence structure, and rules to structure dialogue encouraged me to return and edit past stories. This small example shows that a stronger commitment to this goal will be necessary to spark improvement. My experience in the course will serve as an example of why I’ll need to commit to this goal If I want to pursue legal studies
In order to, critique, and perpetually reconstruct my writing process to attain a higher level of refinement in my work. Indeed, the more research and researchers I read pertinent to my area of study the wider my body of reference becomes and will make me more confident in the whole process of scholarly writing. In short, my scholarly writing will become quicker, easier, and more
Improving these skills will help my organization in writing papers, as well as making them comprehensive. Number four is titled “they can write clearly and persuasively and movingly” (p. 8). This paragraph is described as being able to touch, teach, and persuade people through your writing. I do think I lack this trait, but I think that my expected experience at Central and more importantly, my intersections course, will help me to become a better writer. I expect this to be because of the more intense writing I will do as compared to high school. Quality number six is something I know I must learn quickly to be successful here at Central.
Coming from the opinion of a conservative, John Glenn is pro Grit. After reading Angela Duckorth’s book and ideas, Glenn was very interested in what she has to say. With the idea of passion and perseverance over a long period of time, he believes it is more important then talent. After reading Angela Duckworth’s idea of grit, Glenn then tried to understand grit, not for what it is, but what it is not. Glenn’s understanding of it is, “It’s not shallow practice, it’s not mindlessly sprinting up and down the hardwood, nor is it obsessing over impractical goals.”
Through years of writing and learning how to improve, my style has been molded by not just writing words and facts, but also not write just opinions and two sides. I put my personality into my writing by, adding hints of my own justifications and commentary. Leading me to consider it a persuasive style, (literarydevices.net) writing ideas and facts all together yet getting my point across without specifically stating it. Thinking about it we just read Jon Krakauer, he gives facts and others opinion in multiple chapters but then inputs his own information and feelings towards Chris using persuasion, I like to balance my writing like that as well.
Why Comp I is So Valuable I believe that there are several reasons why Composition I is a valuable course for college students to take. Some of the reasons Comp I is so valuable are 1) it improves your writing skills, 2) it teaches us the different types of writing, and most importantly 3) it teaches us to manage our time wisely and effectively. Without the course Comp I, I believe that students wouldn’t be prepared or as prepared to take on the real world. Writing skills are something that most people don’t just have.
After a semester of FYW, I realized that my writing gets better the more I write. In FYW we had papers and writing exercises that allowed my writing to improve. A big help also was The Field Guide to Writing, which allowed me to see examples of good writing, taught me how to write correctly, and was a source of great information for writing. Coming into this class I wrote a lot of music which helped my writing as well but it was not formal writing so the transition to scholarly writing was hard because I looked over a lot of mistakes when writing papers for school. Due to FYW and the help of my class mates peer evaluations helped me overcome that issue.
