Mystery shopping or a mystery consumer is a tool used externally by market research companies or internally by companies themselves to measure quality of service or compliance with regulation or to gather specific information about products and services. The mystery consumer's specific purpose and identity is generally not known by the establishment being evaluated. There are lot of problems faced by the mystery shopping associations while collecting the data. Mystery shoppers cannot be trusted totally. Some of them provide fake information. Others provide the data to other companies for higher amount. And the worst of them create fake results and pull down the reputation of the companies.
