Diversity issues are critical element taken place within an individual. Diversity is defined as the state of being diverse which is expressed in beliefs and behaviors of individuals, families, communities and in societies. Issues related to age, gender, ethnicity, race, religion, culture, sexual orientation and disability can strongly affect a social worker’s assessment of a client as well as intervention chosen. Social –Economic Justice According to Barker (social work dictionary 2003) social justice is an ideal condition in which all members of a society have the same basic rights, protection, opportunities, obligations and social benefits.
Social workers need a code of ethics to be able to serve their clients and co-workers more professionally. The Code of Ethics guides the social workers with decision making skills for when unethical issues occur. There will be many instances where unethical issues will arise and as social workers we should be prepared to follow the Code of Ethics. However, if the social worker does not follow the Code of Ethics, it can lead to job termination. An example of violating the Code of Ethics is having dual relationships with the clients or former clients in which there is a risk of exploitation to the client.
American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics with Interpretive Statements, provision 1 states, “the nurse, in all professional relationships, practices with compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth, and uniqueness of every individual, unrestricted by consideration of social or economic status, personal attributes, or the nature of health problems” "(About Code of Ethics," 2017). In order to provide quality care to the homeless population, the community health nurse is challenged to put aside her own preconceived opinions about drug addiction, alcohol abuse, mental illness and the assumed unwillingness to care for oneself. “While trying to help clients negotiate ‘the system’ the professionals may face a client’s noncompliance with medical regimes, drug abuse, and even stealing or selling medical resources” (Hunter, 1993, p. 139). Provision 3 of the ANA Code of Ethics affirms, “the nurse promotes, advocates for, and strives to protect the health, safety and rights
There are certain laws in the United States that can prohibit individuals from partaking in their right to vote. The majority of state laws in the U.S. state if you are incarcerated and serving a conviction for a felony you are not permitted to vote until you have been released from jail or prison and/or have been release from parole or probation. Felony convictions result in some of the longest sentences imposed by the judicial system. In fact "prisoners released in 2009 served sentences that were, on average, 36 percent longer than those of offenders released in 1990" (Families Against Mandatory Minimums, 2016, para. 4). Approximately, 20 million people in the United States have been convicted of a felony and served time in jail or prison
A registered nurse is responsible for assessing patients needs and health care problems. They manage and implement the patients care plan. I would advise Mr. Eatough to report this matter to senior management and the board under section IPPF 2060. “The chief audit executives can report the significant risk exposures and control issues including fraud risks, governess issues and other matters needed or requested by senior management” (Kurt, B). The company clearly violate the IIA's International Professional Practices Frameworks code of ethics by not performing work with sincerity and integrity. The company violated the following IPPF sections that are “IPPF 2600 resolution of senior management and acceptance of risk when the audit executives conclude that management has accepted a level of risk that maybe unacceptable to the organisation, the chief audit executives must discuss
According to the NASW (2018), social workers primarily focus on social justice rooted in “issues of poverty, unemployment, discrimination, and other forms…” Social justice is then accomplished by seeking to “promote sensitivity to and knowledge about oppression and cultural and ethnic diversity,” in addition to seeking out the necessary information for services and resources. Furthermore, social justice, according to the NASW pertains to equality in economic, political and social rights and opportunities. A tension point within a social justice framework is the simple fact of ensuring that not only groups, but also individual people are supported in receiving justice.
