The National Policy on Education NPE-1986 (Govt. of India, 1986) is a landmark in the history of Indian education. The NPE-1986, visualized education as a dynamic, cumulative, life long process providing diversity of learning opportunities to all segments of the society. It envisaged improvement and expansion of education in all sectors, elimination of disparities in access and stresses on improvement in the quality and relevance of education at all levels. It starts by creating awareness among the people so that it becomes part of their lifestyle. Environmental awareness is a process of recognizing values and clarifying concepts in order to develop skills and added tools necessary to understand and appreciate the interrelationship among man his culture and his biophysical surrounding. It creates an overall perspective, which acknowledges the fact that environment and manmade environment are interdependent. It is our duty and responsibility of each one of us to protect nature. There is a link between the degradation of our environment and development process and the ignorance of people about retaining the ecological balance. Indeed no citizen of the world can afford to remain aloof from the issues related to the environment. Realization of this goal lies in providing education related to environment and its related programs. This education includes creating awareness, developing, knowledge, attitude, skills and inhancing participation of people in protecting the environment. Therefore should be impacted through integrated approach with the cooperation of people and governments of all the states. Undoubtedly the survival of human beings on the earth depends on clean and healthy environment, therefore It is the need of hour to make the whole society conscious
