The Existence
How do we know anything? That is question I keep asking myself. As I was reading chapter 2 Nagel, kept mentioning, “How do we know if we exist?” That all of the real world experiences we go through on the daily basis are just a figure to our imagination. That everything we see today is just our mind almost playing tricks on us. Nagel makes it seem as though we do not have a soul and in fact our mind is what’s keeping us somewhat human. The con of Nagel statements is if we’re actually in; example a lab, hooked up to wires and the only thing that is keeping us alive is our mind then what is a God. The idea that our lives were meant for God's purpose is supposed to give them their point. We aren’t supposed to ask, "What is the point of God?" Or even question the existence of God any more than one is supposed to ask, "What is the meaning of God?” Can there honestly be something which gives a point to everything else by inclosing it, but which couldn't have any point itself? If God is supposed to give our lives a meaning, that we can’t understand, it’s not much of a solace. We wake up everyday going about our day, never actually noticing the patterns or the daily routines we go about. For me it would be; school, gym, homework, and then going to work on the weekends mostly. You never actually stopped and think about if we actually exist n that very moment. You just go about your day. But then you have one of those days and wonder what is life? I ask myself this a couple of times of a month because sometimes I feel lost. Nagel mentioned on page 101 “ If life is not real, life is not earnest, and the grave is its goal, perhaps it's ridiculous to take ourselves so seriously. On the other hand, if we can't help taking ourselves so seriously, perhaps we just have to put up with being ridiculous. Life may be not only meaningless, but
