7.3 Applications of nanotechnology for green innovation: Some examples from WPN Case Studies
The green applications of nanotechnology are looked upon along with the ongoing case study on nanotechnology for sustainable tyres. i) the development of micro- and nanofibrillar cellulose; ii) nanotechnology for efficiency of electronic and optical components; and iii) carbon nanotubes being used for green innovation. The updates of above mentioned case-studies are given below:
7.3.1 Micro- and nanofibrillar cellulose
Cellulose fibres are renewable and biodegradable raw material. They are used in paper production. Fibres have been used for the production of paper for almost 2000 years, with wood, which is abundant in many countries globally.

7.4 Green innovation through nanotechnology: Responsible development
There are certain pros and cons of Green nanotechnology. It is significantly a potential gainer for environmental, economical and social levels, but there are also potential risks and costs. For example there are concerns about concerns about the level of sustainability of certain green applications of nanotechnology and actual or perceived environmental and safety risks.
While green nanotechnology applications may save energy and reduce carbon emissions in the product, there are concerns about the amount of energy that might be involved in the upstream production of component nanomaterials. Research is being done in this field so that energy and nano materials used for production can be reduced. Nonetheless, the energy, waste and resource extraction costs associated with the production of the materials used in green nanotechnology applications remain an important part of the equation in assuring the responsible development of green

The papyrus continued to be in use for almost 4,000 years until the chinese replaced it with the paper we know today. In the modern world much of the need for indigo is being met with other types of blue dyes. Most of the indigo produced is synthetic indigo. The main use for indigo dye is for cotton yarn to produce blue jeans. Small amounts of indigo dye are used for dyeing wool and silk.
