When I am at home with my sisters we love to play basketball with me and shoot baskets with me. When we have a chance to play basketball we will normally play 2 on 1, pig, horse, or we will just shoot for fun. Incase you don't know what pig is it’s a game where someone shoot from a spot that they want to shoot from and if they make it then the other person has to shoot from there and if they make it they don't get a letter but if they miss it then they get a letter. It keeps going until you have g and you miss then you get two shots to make the shot that the other person made and if you miss, then you lose and that's pretty much what we play a lot of. The girls have been playing with me and rebounding for me since they were old enough to walk and throw a basketball back at me and let's just say that the youngest one Anna isn't very good even though she thinks she the best in the world.
The girls and I also have lots of memories together. One thing I remember is when Leah and Anna play with me this one time we were playing 2 on 1 and Anna went in to get a drink and Leah said she could take me and I was dribbling the basketball and suddenly she lunged at the ball and I moved it the slightest to the right and she fell over and by that time I ran on the hard, wet concrete , jumped off the hard, slippery ground, and then soared to the bright hoop like an airplane. I feel the wind rushing beside me, I feel the Leah hitting my leg, I feel the force of the jump from the hoop rattling after I dunked, it was almost liked I jumped like a olympic high jumper. I thought I was flying because I could feel the wind rushing through my hair and I thought how far did I

“Why can’t we get into our freaking offense!?” This is all I really remember from Coach McKendrick at halftime last year against Niles North in what was a tough night for our basketball team. Prior to this, we beat New Trier at home and then went on the road and beat the pre-season unanimous vote to win conference, Highland Park, in our first conference game. Before the New Trier game, our game plan was simple: we were smaller, but faster, so we were going to run the court and make this is a fast pace game. We executed our gameplan, and we won.
“Are you really serious about basketball?” said my Dad “Yes Dad, I’m sure” I said “Then let’s call the coach” said Dad Then we called the coach and started going to practice. I made some friends and I had people on my team that I 've played against so it was kind of awkward at first but then we all became friends and a great team. The team consisted of me, Ali, Cole, Javion, Marquise,
Ex-Basketball player by John Updike is a poem about Flick Webb. Flick is a mechanic that was a superstar athlete in highschool. Flick wasn't the smartest so he didn't do well in school. Because he didn't do well in school he only became a mechanic and lives in the same town as he did in highschool. I think that the message of the story is that just because you're a great athlete you still have to try hard in school so if sports don't work out then you have a backup option.
He was talented, The coach subs the man who couldn't defend Andrew and subbed me in. The team passed me the ball I dribbled rapidly to start a fastbreak. Andrew tried steal it from him I span around him and gave my teammate a alley oop. People on the bench started to gaze at me.
Breath was rushing out the kid who wore a Gray and blue uniform, the boy 's hair was black and poked straight up in twisted curls, he had brown eyes that looked like dirt, he was strong and athletic, his name was D’haquille Jones, and I was DhaQuille Jones, staring down at the newly glazed floorboards of John Pickett high school gym. The ref blew the whistle signaling that our time out was over, and all we had was thirteen precious seconds to beat the Valencia high. I jogged onto the court, adrenaline rushing through my body. The ref tossed the ball towards Chris, once he had found the open man he lobbed it over the oncoming defender. Calling for the ball I sprinted around my defender to get open.
Before Kareem Abdul-Jabbar spent 20 years in the national basketball association, he was Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor Jr. born in New York, New York. His father was a police officer whom only had one son. Ferdinand stood 5 foot 8 inches at just 9 years old and by time he got to the eighth grade he had already grown a foot, and could dunk a basketball. As a sophomore in highschool he averaged 19 points and 18 rebounds a game, his senior year he averaged 30 points a game. At Power Memorial Academy Ferdinand set New York city school records for scoring and rebounding, all while winning 71 straight games and winning 3 state titles.
Running down the court, people cheering your name, that's basketball. In this essay I will be discussing how I started as a dancer, and then suddenly found a new love for basketball. The first paragraph will begin to talk about how I began to talk about how I started to doubt myself when I first started playing. In the second and third paragraphs I will speak about my evolution as a basketball player. I was first dancing at the Pella Dance Studio, I was three.
Hoop dreams is an award winning film that follows two African American boys, William Gates and Arthur Agee, throughout their high school basketball careers. Both boys were recruited at a young age by a scout from St. Joseph’s High School in Westchester, Illinois approximately a 90- minute commute from their homes in Chicago. Agee and Gates struggled to succeed in this prestigious program due to issues surrounding race, socioeconomic status, a foreign social environment, education, injury, and values. This film tied together everything we have learned about how race and social class are not separate dimensions of inequality.
Allen lined himself with the basket and the free throw line. Allen slowly squatted and reposed for a second and shot the ball, following through with his hand the basketball embarked in the air with backspin and landed perfectly inside the basketball hoop. The man next to Allen’s court looked at him and began to walk to him. Once the man came up to Allen he asked “ Do you want to play a quick 1 on 1?” Allen responded with a nod to assent the man.
Growing up there wasn’t a really anything to make me feel like me until the first day I picked up a basketball and actually knew what I was doing with it. Basketball has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. I still hear the sound of shoes squeaking and the sound the ball makes going through the hoop after a perfect shot. The love that I have for the game has always been there but that day something changed for the better and I am grateful for that. When I look back and the special moments that have shaped my life this is the first one that always come first especially when I walk in to Apple Valley Middle School gym.
Playing basketball helps burn your calories and build your endurance. Since basketball is such a fast paced game, playing one hour of basketball can burn 630 to 750 calories, and will help build endurance as there is a lot of running from one basket to the other. Playing basketball also helps to build muscle and improve balance and coordination. Playing basketball requires you to use all of your muscle such as your legs to jump for a dunk or dunk, and your hands and arms to dribble or shoot. Due to the constant the constant dribbling, jumping and shooting it helps train and build your muscles.
As soon as I got the ball, I started to race down the court pounding the ball as I was dribbling. I squared up facing the hoop getting ready to take my shot. I raised my arm up, releasing the ball with my fingertip with poor form and arc. The ball went flying towards the hoop very fast. The sound of the net went swoosh
