Did you know that over 70% of all the freight tonnage in the US is moved by trucks? With an average of 10.5 billion tons of freight annually, it requires over 3.4 million heavy-duty and over 3.5 million truck drivers to move it all. The US also moves an average of 38 billion gallons of diesel fuel a year. According to Trucking.org, the trucking industry produced 676.2 billion dollars of revenue in 2016. It’s simple, without semi-truck drivers the economy and America would come to a stand still. Although truck drivers are the backbone of America, behind the scenes are the dispatchers and representatives coordinating the loads for the drivers.
After graduation of high school, I started working at a natural gas company that installed and rebuild pipelines throughout Minnesota. All the jobsites needed heavy equipment and lots of plastic pipe which was transported by semi truck drivers. A big part of my job was to help coordinate the transportation of the equipment and pipe to jobsites. After awhile of working along side with the truck drivers, I started to peak more and more interest in the transportation industry.
