Narrative Rough Draft
I’m now in my junior year of high school and I have just finished my 3rd year of high school football. From a young age, I fell in love with playing football, from playing pickup games with friends to playing on an organized team for my high school. It wasn't until I began weightlifting that I truly began to appreciate the dedication, discipline, and work ethic required to excel in this sport.
My weightlifting journey began when I realized that I needed to improve my physical strength, size, and endurance to become a better football player. At the start of my sophomore year, I began a dedicated weightlifting routine that consisted of exercises such as squats, deadlifts,

My AirPods and Beats have been very important in my daily workout routine and have helped me motivate myself to keep going and working out. I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t listen to music during my workout.
In one year of working out, I've almost doubled the weights that I began working out with which was definitely past the goal that I set for myself. For example, I put on around 20 lbs throughout my journey and my muscles have grown and my body is way more toned than before. My junior year of football has been my best year getting a lot of playing time on the field and making the starting roster and excelling on the football field. The work I've put in the weight room has paid off tremendously feeling way stronger, more explosive, and quicker. As I have become stronger physically, I have also gained more confidence in my abilities as a player. This has translated to my performance on the field, as I am now more willing to take risks and make more aggressive plays as a safety on defense. Furthermore, the discipline and focus that I have learned in weightlifting have carried over to my approach to
It was July 4, 2016, when the thought of losing weight and having a toned body was a way of the past. Barbell Republic Strength and Conditioning opened their doors offering an array of cardio, strength training, and weightlifting workouts. I have always been competitive from junior high into high school (I wanted to be first) and participating in Cross Fit it has fulfilled my desire to compete. On the 8th of April, 2017, my friend Stephanie and I competed in a local charitable Cross Fit challenge in Las Vegas. The event was a day full of competition, food, supplements, clothing lines and most importantly giving back.
Throughout the next eight months I improved in all types of areas. I got faster, stronger, and smarter. Football was right around the corner and I was ready to earn a varsity
I played sports from the age of seven through my senior year of high school. I gave up participating in sports after several knee injuries. At Shepherd, I am a Quality Control Coach for the football team. You may wonder “What is a Quality Control Coach?”, or “What does a Quality Control Coach do?”. In my case, I work with the offensive line (my supervisor is the offensive line coach), occasionally help in the equipment room , or film practices when other interns can’t make it to
After my first season of varsity was over I felt even more motivated to get better. I started lifting weights almost every day, even if it meant I had to go to the gym at midnight and still go to school the next morning. The summer of my senior year all I did was either work or work out, I barely spent any time with my friends. But all that work paid off for me because as my senior season approached, I found myself starting on both sides of the ball and on special
The sound of loud music, people cheering on, and the rattling of metal weights are what made me an addict to this sport. These are just a few things that Robert T described in his article Powerlifting. “I’m an addict, and have been since freshman year.” Alright, this is a small quote I relate very much to it. I entered the weight room as a freshman and I knew I would never stop going.
According to former university of Wisconsin strength coach Scott Hettenback, “Strength training year-round can help with motor skills and create a foundation for proper movements, which then improves overall athleticism”(Koester 1). Those opposed to the participation of singular year round sports often state that athletes will most certainly face overexhaustion. Thanks to Scotts findings, One of the most uncomplicated solutions to this problem is simply strength training. Receiving the proper strength training will allow for the advancement of young athletes athleticism in all aspects of their desired sport. The overall improvement of athleticism
This book is about a teenager named Jumo Rodgers. He finished his first year of varsity hearing “if onlys,” as in, if only he were bigger. His talent on the field is easy to spot, and local papers and college recruiters are taking notice. But with his best friend on speed dial for recruiters at big-time college programs, and treated like a king at Cranmer Academy, Jumo decides he wants to be more than good, he wants to be the real deal now. Taking his coaches lecture about commitment to heart, Jumo plunges into a new workout regimen that will make him stronger and faster.
All good things must come to an end. There will be a day, when an athlete has to stop playing ball. That transition to stop being an athlete, will be the toughest game they play. They must be prepared for the day they have to stop attending the workouts, meetings, and playing the games. Many student-athletes are depressed when they don’t make it to the pros.
My name is Delaney Trushel. I am a recent graduate from the University of South Carolina Aiken and am extremely excited to begin my athletic training journey. I received my bachelor's in exercise and sports science in just three years. During my final semester at Aiken, I was given the opportunity to intern with our athletic trainer (200+ hours). Throughout my internship, I observed different techniques, evaluations, and injuries across multiple sports.
About me: My name is Summer Hill, I am a Certified Athletic Therapist CAT(C) and hold a Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (BHPE) degree. During my education, I was able to work with a variety of varsity athletes primarily with the St. Mary’s University Men’s Basketball team and the University of Calgary Dino’s Football Team. Working closely with the teams in the pre-season, in-season, and off-season managing injuries and providing support during their strength and conditioning. Working with athletes in the prevention, protection, and rehabilitation of both acute and chronic injuries.
According to a case study done by the Minnesota Youth Sport Research Consortium, they believe that coaches should be placing developing athletes in ideal situations to nurture their psychological, physical, and emotional development (Weise-Bjornstal, 2009). It is clear that this is just not the case for majority of the athletes that are playing in this youth football league. Dealing with high pressures
Growing up I was always considered much smaller than most of my friends. I was a lot skinnier and weaker compared to most of the kids my age. All through middle school and ninth grade it was like this. I saw this as a problem in my life because I had a very low self esteem and couldn’t feel comfortable in my own body. I was tired of how I looked and decided to make a change.
The Balance of Coursework and Experience for Athletic Trainers Do universities really prepare students for the real world? Kinesiology is a field of study for many job opportunities ranging from Physical Therapist, Personal Trainer, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Athletic Trainer, and many more. Kinesiology has a variety of classes you need to take and many different Internship jobs, but some universities don't allow Internships until you meet the requirements. While many universities require practical experience in the field before they start interning, on-the-job training is a better way for students to learn than more academic classes that don’t directly relate to the field.
Most of the people in the gym had their headphones in and were inside of their own world, oblivious to what was going on in all of the surrounding areas. The majority of the conversations that were going on were most often strictly gym based questions. I heard a few questions that were not just gym based but for the most part I was hearing questions about the weight amounts people should use, or questions of people asking another person to put more weight onto their machines and such things. One specific conversation I heard was two guys talking about the pre-workout and post-workout they drink, the guys were discussing their favorites and why they were their favorites. My favorite part of the conversation was at the end when they both said they
My name is Tabitha Ferraira I 'm currently a freshman at ESU majoring in Exercise Science, but I have looked into your Athletic Training program, and have decided that it 'd be a better fit for my future. I have looked at the courses I have already taken and I believe I would still be on track for your program. I would love if you 'd be willing to let me transfer into your Athletic Training program with a concentration in Professional
