Kneeling for the National Anthem is disrespectful in many ways. There are pros and cons to every protest. It is very hard to find the pros in this one. The National Anthem represents our freedom and our liberty as a country. Kneeling for it is just saying one is not proud to be an American. Many citizens take offense to this act from the NFL. They believe that the NFL is abusing the second amendment. Some say that protesting and speaking out is what makes America great, but protesting by disrespecting the flag and country in general is upsetting. USA Todays says "Anthem Kneeling is not aimed at veterans, and other NFL protest misconception'' This protest is not aimed at the country in general. It is aimed at the president, that most African Americans find racist and unfair to blacks. If they feel this way it is great that they want to speak out, just not in this …show more content…
For example, making a fundraiser to expresses your ideas, and others that have the same beliefs will follow. Also, saying meaning things in the media. Don't take this the wrong way. Many do this kind of protesting, but the words said are hurtful and meaningless. Much of the military may feel offended by this protest due to the fact that they lay their life down on the line everyday for our country, and then we have individuals who feel the need to disrespect our nations flag on national TV. Our president is handling this issue wrong. Instead of bringing this issue to one of his major attentions, he is just calling the select that are kneeling out on social media. These individuals may be in the wrong, but the have the right to speak freely. Many also believe that the players need to stop complaining because they are some of the highest paid beings in the country due to our citizens paying taxes. They benefit the most from our country's government, so why
A Failure to Score Support Politics has become increasingly present in every aspect of our lives. Clearly, this is not a new occurrence. Toni Smith’s article titled “A leader is more than a messenger” published in The Sporting News proves that. The article was published in 2003 so it begs the question “Has politics always been embedded in everyday life, and no one cared, or is this new?” It does prove that taking a knee during the national anthem is not a new form of protest.
Jerry Brewer’s Washington Post article, “The NFL Beat Trump. Soundly”, gives the information on how our NFL players and our president Donald Trump are having a controversial dispute. Jerry Brewer states “the actions of the NFL players which has many American football fans enraged by their actions during the national anthem”. Brewer didn’t have too many examples in proving that the NFL had beat trump. In this article, Brewer did not use rhetoric well in this article to explain how the NFL had beaten trump.
Colin Kaepernick Kneels During Salute At Game. Colin Kaepernick a full time NFL player decided he wanted to Kneel during the national anthem because he was against the social injustice and racial profiling by cops in America mostly the cops in Colorado. Colin, who had never done this before or has ever protested against this before, sparked controversy around the country because people thought it was rude, controversial, a stunt and irresponsible use of his power with his fans. Since then Colin has joined protests against this and other big time and small players have since kneeled or sat down during the solute.
Our focus and education levels on this subject just do not add up to the level of controversy because people disrespect the flag on a daily basis! In 1923 on June 14, a federal code was put in place stating how and how not to handle the nation's flag, some examples being, flag advertisement, disposable flag products and just simply wearing the flag. The fact that people are content with these forms of disrespect to the flag, but not woke to the fact that these player are just peacefully protesting against their own history is ignorant and revolting. Consequently I believe that NFL players kneeling during the anthem being looked upon as such a bold move is a bandwagon fallacy as long as most of our country has little to no knowledge on what is actually disrespectful towards our flag, the president’s views and thoughts influencing the way many people think about this subject also it is a peaceful protest to stand up for what black people need now more than
Kneeling during the national anthem is completely irrelevant to the problem trying to be addressed. It only has caused disruption and arguments. People supporting the cause believe they are being treated unfairly in some way, but if you ask anyone, any group, or minority, they’re going to tell you how they’re being treated
I believe that the owners of professional sports teams should not require their players to stand for the National Anthem, but rather that NFL players should be allowed to take a knee or unite arms because this medium of protest is safer than others. These protests are bound to happen either way because of the social forum integrated into the U.S. that encourages the diffusion of these certain mindsets. Recently, there was a protest in Saint Louis regarding the acquittal of Jason Stockley who shot unarmed Anthony Lamar Smith. In the protest, objects, including bricks and broken clay pots, were thrown and resulted in the injury of police officers. Both of these protests plead the same argument, yet the way they are protested lead to totally different
The current debate over kneeling or sitting in protest during the National anthem ignited by Colin Kaepernick in 2016 has escalated to become a nationally divisive issue. Colin Kaepernick, quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers refuse to stand during “the Star Spangled Banner” Aug. 2016, to protest against racial injustice and police brutality in the United States. These athletics that chose not to stand for the national anthem because there was a message they wanted to send. Needless to say, an individual has a right to believe as they so choose. Kaepernick along with many others feel that not standing for the national anthem is a peaceful way to protest and release their feelings.
Recently Trump has criticized the NFL for not forcing the players to stand during the anthem. He says that it's a “Total disrespect for our great country!” and that it's disrespecting the military and everyone who fought for our freedom. The NFL is going to let the players sit or kneel during the national anthem for now. There is a lot of discussion of the freedom of expression and if this is legal or not.
Kneeling during the national anthem is a form of peacefully protesting instead of choosing to stay silent and not have a voice. Former NFL player Colin Kaepernick who is currently a free agent brought the attention to “kneeling during the national anthem” when he decided to take a knee during a preseason game. Him kneeling brought an uproar of people who believed he was being “disrespectful” and “unpatriotic”, others believed he was being “brave” and a “hero”. Kaepernick had a reason for doing so, he was standing up for social justice and police brutality again African Americans. Significance of The Flag
Steven Sternberg Mrs. Burns English 1 CP 1 March, 2018 The Flag Protest “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color” (Kaepernick, Colin). The flag protest has been a protest existing for a long time but, recently sparked lots of controversy. Although kneeling during the national anthem may seem disrespectful are often seen as a disrespect to the flag and troops, a inefficient way to promote a cause, and anger many people in shows division in the country, it can show that the ideals of freedom is justified, it generates conversation and awareness about topic, and is a legal form of peaceful protest.
Being at an NFL game was not the correct time or place to hold a silent protest, and there are people that fight to give Americans the freedoms and rights that they have, so why disrespect those who risk their lives for the USA. It may be one simple act of protest, but not only does it disrespect those fighting but their family and friends too. Like every situation in life, there are two sides to every story, both sides of this one have reasonable arguments. In conclusion, most people frown upon any type of act to disrespect those who give them their freedoms and rights, as well as those who’s duty is to keep communities
Holly Pryle Emily Chappell English 121 22 March 2018 Kneeling for the Anthem Every American child is raised with the knowledge that they were born in a country that by law gives them freedom of self-expression and the right to protest. However, this right does not mean that people must agree with you and in many cases, groups wind up at odds over differing opinions. Over the past few years America has seen many examples of this, most notably football players protesting injustice by kneeling during the anthem.
During the first three preseason games of the 2016 NFL season, Colin Kaepernick formerly quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers sat through the national anthem in protest of police brutality towards African American individuals. When asked about it, Kaepernick said, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of colour.” News outlets immediately attacked
This action caused an upset among students. Some students are in conflict on how to feel with the demonstration. People should not be disrespecting the flag for any
The National Anthem goes on every single time before a game begins. Each time it is being sung everyone usually stands up to show respect for America. While, news said that a few athletic players that have been sitting down, while the National Anthem goes on. This keeps happening more and more slowly because those athletics don’t believe that America lives up to that potential in the song as it once represented. As well as the incidents that happened with the police of excessive force being used against people unassertively.
