One example of someone struggling to uphold the principles of the Declaration of Independence is the NFL. Some players have decided that they will not stand for the national anthem. The players who are not standing for the national anthem believe that there is still racism. They feel like they are not treated equally or fairly to white people. This event relates to the principle one which is, “All people are created equal” and
Former 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick was tired of noticing this horrendous issue on the news and therefore, commenced the emotional movement. Day by day, discovering how many innocent black lives are lost and ripped away from their families, their friends, and their future is too much for anyone to handle. Kaepernick was troubled by these problems and wanted this chaos to end in America. " Once again, I’m not anti-American," Kaepernick explains.
The flag represents freedom and justice and those who are being oppressed feel as though these certain rights are being taken away and that is why it is okay for someone to kneel during the National Anthem. While many people believe that kneeling during the National Anthem is wrong and is disrespectful to the country’s ideals, what many Americans do not realize is that if they look past their beliefs and try

When both Gerry and Julius found out that they were going to be in the same football team they didn’t even want to consider becoming team members. At the beginning of Remember the Titans, racial tensions between the team members and their friends are apparent on and off the field. This caused several conflict between the team members most of which involved Coach Yoast, Coach Boone and their children Gerry and
Steven Sternberg Mrs. Burns English 1 CP 1 March, 2018 The Flag Protest “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color” (Kaepernick, Colin). The flag protest has been a protest existing for a long time but, recently sparked lots of controversy. Although kneeling during the national anthem may seem disrespectful are often seen as a disrespect to the flag and troops, a inefficient way to promote a cause, and anger many people in shows division in the country, it can show that the ideals of freedom is justified, it generates conversation and awareness about topic, and is a legal form of peaceful protest.
Holly Pryle Emily Chappell English 121 22 March 2018 Kneeling for the Anthem Every American child is raised with the knowledge that they were born in a country that by law gives them freedom of self-expression and the right to protest. However, this right does not mean that people must agree with you and in many cases, groups wind up at odds over differing opinions. Over the past few years America has seen many examples of this, most notably football players protesting injustice by kneeling during the anthem.
In the professional world, opinions can be dangerous. Holding a controversial opinion can damage your reputation; stating an opinion that contradicts your boss 's can leave you vulnerable; voicing your opinion at the wrong time can make you appear foolish. The old adage attributed to Abraham Lincoln goes, "It 's better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt," and in the realm of business, that seems to be the truth. At the start of the 2016 NFL preseason, Colin Kaepernick, quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, decided to take a seat during the National Anthem. His gesture during the first preseason game went unnoticed until the third preseason game.
An example of this is, Troy wants to the keep people who don't agree with him out, like his son towards the end of the play. Troy and Cory get in a heated argument about football, their lack of love and respect for each other, and never being there for one another. Cory leaves Troy at the end of their argument, “Tell Mama I'll be back for my things”(2.4.110) and Troy tells Cory “they'll be on the other side of the fence”(2.4.111). This clearly states to the readers how Troy feels about Cory and the fence symbolizes their separation and division of their relationship. I believe the fence does more harm than good because it ruins relationships and love for one
Concussions themselves are a controversial topic simply because of their destructive forces on the lives of everyone, ranging from people who tripped and fell a little too hard, to people who make a career of hitting other people as hard as they possibly can. There are many people opposed to the idea of football’s inherent violence, yet advocates of the sport claim that removing the factor of colliding would make a completely different sport that cannot even be called football, which itself has become so ingrained in American society that it practically owns a day of the week from Week One of preseason to the closing seconds of the Superbowl. The fact remains though that if football were to suddenly cease existing, many people would be jobless,
The Washington D.C football team has started a controversy with many people that are from the American Indian background. The “indian” sports mascot, logos, or symbols show an image of the Native American people that is not true. To some this may concerning, but to others this is no big deal. I think that this is something that people and teams should care or think about.
Taking a Stand The wide world of sports has been buzzing lately about the controversy of the San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick refusing to stand during the National Anthem. News outlets all around the country have been discussing their opinions on Kaepernick’s actions. Everyone seems to have a different opinion on the issue. Presidential candidate Donald Trump has weighed in on the action, stating that Kaepernick can find another country to live in if he can’t respect the anthem.
This quote is Important because Tim O 'Brien is explaining how he felt like every eye in his town was on him. Felt embarrassed because he didn 't wanted to go to war. By censoring them they deny their ability to freely express themselves as people and create huge controversy in the communities of many citizens. One example is comedian George Carlin who was forced to censor the content in his acts because people believed that it was too profane for his fans and other people in the audience. This, of course, created huge controversy due to the fact that forcing people to censor their words is a violation of their first amendment right to free speech. This was such a big deal because the people of America fought for years for that right. Another example is the riots and killings taking place in Ferguson, Missouri.
