When I first hear about National Honor Society in the beginning of my middle school years I knew that it was something I not only wanted to be a part of but that I was meant to be a part of. Growing up much of my time was spent around adults causing me to mature quickly and realize things others my age did not. It has been a long journey to get to where I am considered to be today. There has been many obstacles to overcome both academically and personally. ....... I have accomplished many tasks in my high school years, however, the one that truly molded me into who I am today is three years ago when I received my first Exceptional Bear Achievement Award. The Exceptional Bear Achievement Award is granted to those who maintain a 4.0 GPA all year long.
Furthermore, it can be argued the Federal Government was responsible for the advancement of civil rights for African-Americans from 1880-1980 because the Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education was a ground-breaking Supreme Court case dealing with busing students to promote integration in public schools in 1971. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system had more than 84,000 students in 107 schools in the 1968-1969 school year and there was an estimation of 24,000 Negros among those. Of the 24,000 Negros, about 14,000 attended 21 schools that were at least 99% Negro. This showed that desegregation was still needed in the city of Charlotte. It was first argued on 12 October 1970 but was officially decided on 20 April 1971.
Being accepted into the National Honor Society has been a goal of mine since I learned what National Honor Society was and how only students who embody the four cornerstones of NHS which are scholarship, leadership, service, and character are accepted to be members. It is very hard to find students who have good character, demonstrate scholarship, are great leaders, and who are willing to do service for their community, and that is why I believe I am a great fit for membership in the National Honor Society because I embody all four cornerstones. I have been considering and trying to aim for National Junior Honor Society since I have entered this school. This would be a wonderful experience if I could become a member of the National Junior Honor Society Chapter. Although, I am not involved in a numerous about of clubs or extracurricular activities in school. I am in a couple of organizations, do community work and work related jobs outside of school that demonstrates my skills, such as leadership and providing me experience. I like to make my community a place where people can get along and that it is comfortable for at least most people since not everyone will be like that.
I would like to start off this essay off by saying I am very honored to be invited to join the National Honor Society. Ever since I was young I loved helping people. I did this through Girl Scouts, which I participated in five years ago. One year my Girl Scout troop went to Kennedy Hospital in December and sang Christmas carols to cheer people up. It was events like this that really shaped who I am as a person.
Being a part of the National Honor Society would be a privilege. I have been chosen as a candidate due to my academic excellence, but I understand it takes more than just a good GPA. I believe my abilities to be a leader, serve others, and express good character meet the standards set by NHS. The service opportunities that I will have as a part of NHS is what I look forward to the most.
This is what the National Honor Society hopes for in a member. I know i’m not perfect and can make mistakes at times, but acknowledging that takes a lot of character. My academic achievements are a result of my determination and drive to ensure that i’ll be able to achieve success in the future as well as serve as role model to the younger siblings and cousins in my family. Jane Goodall once said, “What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” For being a member in the National Honor Society, you are required to make choices involving the four pillars representing the activity itself; scholarship, service, leadership, and even character. Like Goodall says, you have the power to make anything happen, but it is your gift to be able to choose what you will produce. If anyone is being honest, it is a privilege to qualify for such an inspirational activity. Being a part of The National Honor Society requires you to encompass scholarship, service and character which I tend to often demonstrate and constantly strive for.
I believe one thing that differentiates me from others is my standardized test scores. Now, I am not hinting at the fact that my test scores are outstanding, because they are not. Usually when someone boasts about how good their test scores are the first thing that comes to mind is that this person must be really smart. On the other hand, if I am talking to someone about my test scores that might be lower they perceive me as not being as smart as other students. In addition, this is definitely not the case for every situation, but the way of thinking when it comes to standardized test scores often deal with the level of knowledge one might posses.
I was disappointed by this and I admit I was jealous of some of the people that were accepted. So, when senior year came around I made sure to be a part of groups or events that helped me build up my leadership. From this I managed to be accepted into the National Honor Society. I was in shocked when I got the letter and I thought that it was a dream.
National Honor Society is a great organization that recognizes the outstanding high school students. Glidden-Ralston has a great National Honor Society organization, and it would be a huge honor to be a part of. National Honor Society resembles scholarship, service, leadership, and character, and I believe that I have all of these qualities and would surely represent Glidden- Ralston National Honor Society. The first element of National Honor Society is scholarship.
In addition to the grade point average of students, an individual should be respectable, intelligent, and mature to gain acceptance into National Honor Society. National Honor Society is a widely renowned group that only the top candidates should be admitted to, not just for academic achievement, but for being a genuinely good person. Not only do I believe that I portray these qualities, but I have much more to offer, therefore, I should be considered for admission. Scholarship can be shown in many ways, and is not only limited by grade point average. To me, scholarship can be defined as someone excelling in school by trying their hardest and making an attempt to educate themselves to the best of their ability.
National Junior Honor Society Essay Being a member of National Junior Honor Society interests me in a number of ways. I believe I excel in all five criteria of NJHS: academics, leadership, service, citizenship, and character, and being a part of this national organization will help me improve much more in each of the categories. I am also interested knowing that having membership in NJHS will help my future career and bring a lasting impression to many people. Scholarship is important in people’s lives; it both helps their futures and encourages them to do more work academic related. I have succeeded in many tasks academically.
Four years ago, I remember being told, “We both know you can do it, you are just not putting in enough effort.” In the middle of my eighth grade year, the dreams of going to college and having a better life for myself was not important at that moment. College didn’t matter to me as I was with the wrong type of friends who always influenced my behavior whether I knew it or not. While I knew that I was capable of being on the high honor roll, it didn’t seem to matter to a thirteen year old. Knowing that college was still years away, I didn’t want to focus on it so early in my life.
