March 7th, 2023 I believe I am an eligible candidate for NJHS. National Junior Honor Society, or NJHS, is a program permitted to students that show the following characteristics: Leadership, Service, Scholarship, Citizenship, and a Good and Positive Character. I feel as though throughout my middle school years I have displayed each of these traits a multitude of times. This includes many things such as volunteering for the community, and donating various items for numerous causes. According to a survey I conducted, most people answered that leadership was one of the most important traits of a successful person. Leadership means to not always follow the expectations set by

I still tried to do and did many things to help, such as donating food for people in need, cleaning trash on the side of roads, volunteering at the public library, and helping out at the school garden. Overall I had __ service hours written down on my log, which did not document everything I had done. My overall goal is to make our town a better place for the future, which is why I always try my best to help the people in our society. This is why I believe that I show the characteristics of …show more content…
As stated previously, I do my part in society by trying to help out as much as possible and play my role properly. I also have been a part of many clubs and activities, something else I have claimed and explained earlier on in this essay. In fifth grade I was in Builders Club, a club where you can make cards for veterans or people who very unfortunately have an illness. In sixth grade I was in S.A.V.E. Club. This is a club all about the environment where we would supply all teachers with a recycling bin in their classrooms and empty them each week, spread awareness for the environment and what we as a society can do to protect it, held fundraisers, donated food and other items to homeless shelters and different charities, cleaned up the school, fixed and grew the school garden, and more. This is why I imagine I exhibit good citizenship.
Out of all of these attributes, one sticks out to me the most. Character is, in simple words, your personality and/or how you act. I feel as though this is the most important trait out of the rest, simply because with a lack of character, none of the other characteristics really matter. I feel as though I have conveyed good character in many ways throughout my middle school life. This includes complimenting my friends, holding the door for people, helping out as much as I can when given
As a member of Key Club I was a strong contributor to the volunteer opportunities that arose, (i.e. Beach Cleanup, Trick or Treat for UNICEF). In my third year of high school, I became the secretary of the School Improvement Committee. As the secretary, I was responsible for making sure all of the meetings ran smoothly and were recorded for future use. Along with these club activities, I have volunteered for many of the teachers and staff in the school. Such activities included filing, running papers to classrooms, and helping out during school activities.
Volunteering time at church and school have become a major part of what I do. The youth group I belong to at St. Thomas UCC collects items and put together hygiene bags for the YWCA. For school, I often volunteer to help with the bands, working in the kitchen for Indoor Drumline shows and helping to set up the Craft Show. I also assist my classmates if they request it. If a student is absent, I will take responsibility to send them notes they may have missed in class, and also what they homework is so they can attempt to do it.
My character traits help me to gain the trust and respect of my peers as they believe me to be extremely creative and a dependable person. I have great problem-solving skills; I tend to think outside the box and I have
Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” He believed that with determination, struggle, and intellect one can achieve the impossible. By the same token, my perseverance, dedication, and tenacity have allowed me to work with others to achieve a common goal. I strive to become a member of the National Honor Society because I possess qualities of the organization’s Character pillar, which is a worthwhile experience, and have a unique humanitarian service project idea that would follow the pillar of Service. By virtue of my trustworthiness, reliability, and courtesy towards others, I model traits of the National Honor Society's pillar of Character.
The bulk of my service hours comes from my position as a CIT at Pilgrim Day Camp, which did not qualify as community service. I would like to emphasize that I was not given any money for my work at the camp. I would define community service as voluntary work intended to help people in a particular area. Being a CIT was completely voluntary, and my work at the camp benefitted the campers and their parents. By being a role model for young children, I positively impacted their lives and guided them through camp activities.

Service to me means, giving your all to you school and community without expecting anything in return. At a young age, I participated in many fundraising events with my dance team where we provided a service to others such as annual car washes, waiting tables at various restaurants, and organizing dances and activities for kids. In Junior High I was a key club member and we volunteered for concession stand duties, helped out at elementary basketball tournaments, and acted as line judges or referees at volleyball tournaments. Since my mom is a first grade teacher, I spent many summers setting up and organizing her classroom, and on my days off from school, I provided kids in my mom’s classroom with help in reading or math. As a part of Earth Week at our school, I did various jobs for people in my community.
The first reason why I should be in National Junior Honor Society is because of my leadership skills. The first example of my leadership skills are applied to my youth group in the Cecilton Parish. I am the treasurer and help with the Ideas for fundraising. We, as a group held a spaghetti dinner for the church and I managed the money and the setting. Pursuing this further, I actively show leadership in school.
It is an honor to be nominated for the National Honor Society. The fact that I was nominated proves to me that all of my hard work and dedication has not been for nothing. The National Honor Society is known for recognizing students who strive to achieve their best not only in school but in themselves and the community. I believe that I’m one of those students. It is an extraordinary honor to be considered as a candidate for the National Honor Society. Being considered means I have achieved my goal in demonstrating my determination- in school and outside of school- and my willingness to aid people in my community. Being a part of such a prestigious organization is an enormous responsibility to which I will fully devote my time. Ever since I was a freshman, my goal was to work diligently to be among the highest scholars and to be accepted into this scholarly “hall of fame”. Through my relentless hard work and perseverance, I believe that I possess the four characteristics of a National Honor Society member- leadership, service, character, and scholarship.

I hold all the qualities required by the distinguished NHS like leadership, service, character and scholarship.
I am ready to board the ship, and set sail – pointing towards a bright future of being an ECU pirate. Being admitted into the Honors College at ECU would be the catalyst to a successful future. As a high school senior, I am considering many universities and believe that being apart of the ECU community would allow me to reach my full potential. Growing up I have always set high standards for myself academically and extracurricularly. I participate in many clubs at my school including BETA club and National Honor Society.
