Israel has been dealing with national security threats at the same level or higher than the United States since it’s rebirth over six decades ago. This country has been forced to defend itself against constant terrorist threats. Through these extreme circumstances, Israel has become a leader in mastering techniques and technologies in the realm of homeland security, counterterrorism, and cyber security. Israel is a crucial partner to the United States in the furtherance of our national security for many reasons, but more specifically, through its military involvement, and development of technologies. Through my extensive research at the Terrorism Research Center, I have recognized domestic and international threats to US national security and have found that much of the international threats come from the Middle East. The technologies developed in Israel are both fascinating and productive in countering terrorism and protecting citizens. This will help me achieve my career goals by giving me the opportunity to experience and see how Arabs, Israelis, Christians, Muslims, Jews, and other ethnic minorities have a coexistence in this region. Since I will be exposed to many cultures and religions, I will gain a deeper understanding of both Islamic and Jewish culture. Through gaining credibility through personal experiences, I will bring my experience back to the United States to further intelligence and cultural awareness through implanting policies and strategies in the region. My language ability will be the most important aspect to my career in national security. I can memorize, and absorb concepts form a classroom, but until I immerse myself into the culture and the language, I will not be fully capable of helping or responding to those who speak Arabic.
