During my time in high school, I knew that I wanted to somehow dedicate my life to the service of my country. There is a history of Air Force and Naval service in my family (my family tree goes back to Rear Admiral John. A. Dahlgren, and my great-uncle is an alumnus of the Naval Academy.) I’ve always known that the Naval Academy offers the best way for me to achieve my ambitions of serving as a Naval Officer and of becoming a Naval Aviator and an astronaut.
What has contributed the most to my own character development and personal integrity has been my experience over the last couple of years as a college student. If there is anything that I can say about my character development over the last few years it’s that, I have become a much more

I re-took a chemistry course this summer that I originally had taken during my first semester of college. I wanted to re-take this course (along with several other courses I’ve taken this summer and this fall term) specifically to improve my GPA and to prove to myself that I could handle the course requirements during Plebe year at the Academy. During the first exam for this class, I was out of town with my family but my professor gave me permission to take the exam online. Before taking this exam my parents said that I should cheat on the exam and that if I didn’t I was naïve. They even tried to argue that most students, even at service academies, cheat on exams. Even though theoretically speaking it would have been very easy to cheat on this test, I maintained my integrity and did not cheat on that exam, or any exam for that matter.
Integrity at its most basic form is doing the right thing even when no one is watching. I have never had any difficulty upholding this value during the course of my life. This example of my chemistry exam is just one tangible way that I can show how highly I hold the value of integrity. If I couldn’t uphold my integrity, I know I wouldn’t be worthy of becoming a Naval Officer because without integrity as an officer I couldn’t be trusted to swear by my own word let alone be trusted with leading
Throughout the world millions of people immigrate every year, which is a known fact. Since I was ten years old, I have been a member of the Young Marines, a program dedicated to the enrichment of youth. Aside from my family and school, this organization has had an incredible impact on my life, not only providing me with many unique and amazing experiences, but by shaping the foundation of my character by instilling in me the three core principles of the Young Marines: Discipline, Leadership, and Teamwork and also by emphasizing the importance of community service. I have had many amazing and unique experiences as a Young Marine which included the challenges of promotion to become the senior ranking officer, learning many new skills such as CPR, teaching Drug Demand Reduction, leading and mentoring the members of the Unit, going on encampments and traveling. In my sophomore year, my Unit Commander, a Korean War veteran, selected me to travel with him to Seoul. Every few years he chooses a Young Marine to take to South Korea based on merit.
INTEGRITY Integrity is important for many reasons. The author, Ethan Canin, uses integrity as the central idea of his short story, “The Palace Thief”. The narrator, Hundert, believes it's his job to mold his students’ characters,so that these boys could grow up to become powerful leaders with good morals.
An honor code can be so effective that “many schools with academic honor codes allow students to take their exams without proctors present, relying on peer monitoring to control cheating” (Source F). Despite this system, there is research that “indicates that the significantly lower levels cheating” (Source F) at schools with honor codes. This is possible because there is a peer culture that denounces cheating, making kids embarrassed to commit academic dishonesty. Such a peer culture was formed by educating the students about the value of academic dishonesty.
Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” He believed that with determination, struggle, and intellect one can achieve the impossible. By the same token, my perseverance, dedication, and tenacity have allowed me to work with others to achieve a common goal. I strive to become a member of the National Honor Society because I possess qualities of the organization’s Character pillar, which is a worthwhile experience, and have a unique humanitarian service project idea that would follow the pillar of Service. By virtue of my trustworthiness, reliability, and courtesy towards others, I model traits of the National Honor Society's pillar of Character.
As a junior in high school, I was inducted into the National Honor Society for doing exceptionally well in my academic endeavors and actively participating in volunteer events. My contributions through this organization have made a significant impact on both my personal development and my community’s support services. The numerous volunteer projects in which I have participated have prepared me to continue helping others in the future. Through projects such as building houses from the ground-up with Habitat for Humanity, I have developed teamwork skills, discovered my management potential, and increased my social network, all while working to provide services for less fortunate individuals in my community. It has been been a goal of mine to attend the United States Naval Academy after visiting Annapolis with my grandparents in 2012. Since visiting the Naval Academy I knew that I wanted to serve America with the utmost honor and integrity. The Naval Academy Summer Seminar would give me the ability to hone my leadership skills and give me valuable experience that I could use as a Navy Midshipman and throughout life. This summer experience is an opportunity of a lifetime because it will allow me to understand and benefit from the mental and physical challenges the academy provides. Challenging myself at the Naval Academy Summer Seminar would be greatly beneficial for me because I will have the confidence and skills to make decisions
When Mori left Japan, and moved to the States, I feel like she didn’t really care that she was leaving home. She was happy to leave her father and go to a university. I don’t think she felt homesick, but she did bring up things she used to remember doing as a child. A lot of her happy memories she brought up included her mother. If Mori’s mother was still around when she went to college, I think she would’ve felt homesick.
As I am getting ready to begin my college years, my experience in America is getting richer every day. I have realized how much opportunities I have being an American citizen and living in this part of the world compared to the life i lived in Togo and I intend to make the most of it. I’m working toward my goals and one of them is to join the military. I always have the desire of serving people and I believe serving in the Military is one way to show my gratitude to my new country and its
My goal is to attend the University of Houston, earn a major in Electrical Engineering and then commission as an officer in the Navy. As a freshmen in high school I joined NJROTC in order to help achieve this goal by developing leadership and other qualities like perseverance and the navy’s core values of Honor Courage and Commitment. While in The Los Fresnos NJROTC I have acquired a considerable amount of knowledge about the military and all the men that go out to fight in order to maintain peace and freedom. This has greatly influenced the way I feel about the American flag because I understand that the flag means so much that brave young men still to this day continue to sacrifice their lives in order to keep people like myself safe. It has influence me so much that I too wish to protect that peace and freedom not only with my life but with the knowledge that I will acquire with a collage education and the leadership that I have
The most character building experience in my life was when I joined the National Junior Honor Society in middle school. Engaging in NJHS has molded me into honing the attributes of leadership, citizenship, scholarship, service, and character. For instance, involving myself in community service like Relay For Life, not only aided me with the chance to assist my community but has helped me to develop citizenship and service. Furthermore, being in the organization has made me realize that I can assume the role of leadership and guide my fellow classmates by being a role model. Consequently, I became further aware of the importance of education and have been gradually becoming, increasingly studious.
Introduction Academic Integrity is an essential component of third level education because it is the fundamental building block in which we derive our professional ethics and integrity from. It sets a pattern for life long integrity in all areas of life. Our job as students is to construct knowledge honestly and fairly. A culture of honesty earns a great deal of respect. Integrity is fundamental to everything we do in college, I don’t think we can have genuine learning without integrity.
“Succeed so that you can help us in future”. This is always the narrative when a member of the society gets into higher learning. The general population wants to get the best out of someone but what happens when circumstances do not allow for success. Cheating in the exam is one way to make people happy in that one has to violate the rules that govern exam misconduct. In this case, cheating is good but is it morally correct?
Analysis of “The Seafarer” “The Seafarer” by an anonymous Anglo-Saxon scop, focuses on the themes of personal conflict and the desire to be on a journey. Have you ever experienced love and hate at the exact same time? This Anglo-Saxon elegy reveals the pain of isolation, desire, love, and confusion the sea causes the speaker to feel when he faces fate. The Seafarer has developed a love-hate relationship for his passion.
My parents as i'm sure most do taught me that integrity should be something you always strive to achieve. For the longest time I never really knew how important integrity was until I actually had to prove to myself I had it. I have always known the general steps to have integrity, be honest, stand up for what is right, and just be a good person. It took till freshman year to finally understand what it meant to really have integrity and to show it. I was on the Washington D.C. trip that most freshman take
