The word Nowruz or Nawroz is a compound word that is made of two Dari words which, “Naw” means New and “Roz” means Day. It is the first day of the New Year, people wear new clothes and wish themselves to have good luck and have a happy New Year in this day. Nawroz was first celebrated by Zoroastrian tradition and its history goes around 3000 years back. Moreover it was celebrated by Persian Empire and its influence has remained till now, Nawroz is one of the most popular festivals among the south Asian countries. In fact in 2010 the UN’s General Assembly recognized 21st of March as international day of Nawroz. Nawroz is celebrated differently at different countries. Afghanistan is among those countries that celebrate Nawroz each year. For instance the most famous ways that are being celebrated are: Char Shanbe Suri, Haft Sen, Samank and Janda Bala or Mele Gul-e-Sorkh. People celebrate the last Wednesday of the old year; this Wednesday is called Char Shanbe Suri. Indeed people celebrate Char Shanbe Suri in order to get rid of misfortunes and bad luck of the past year. Janda Bala means to put a special holy flag in its place therefore, every year thousands of people travel to Mazar-e-Sharif in order to watch this special event. Meanwhile, Mele Gul-e-Sorkh is a sort of picnic that people go to special places to have some good time and spend the Nawroz day with their families. Moreover, Gul-e-Sorkh or “Tulip” is a special type of flower that grows in Balkh province. While traveling to watch Janda Bala, people have their own special believes and expectations. For instance, when people are watching Janda Bala, they believe that if the holy flag is put without any accidents on its place, they will have a happy and prosperous year ahead, but if they could not do it properly the coming year will not be healthy and
