I chose drug abuse as a social problem because it is at the core of several other social problems we face. Currently, the most common social problems seen in our societies are unemployment, homelessness, divorces or family breakdowns, violence, child abuse and road accidents. A closer look at all these problems reveals a strong link with drug abuse, hence my interest in it. In addition to this, I see it every day, around me. Several youths losing their lives to drug abuse, people hurt due to drug-related cases and families breaking down due to drug abuse.

They can turn a healthy individual into someone unrecognizable and self-destructing. The people that become addicted to these heavy drugs will often lose ties to family and only work towards getting the drugs, they can lose hope and start to feel worthless. There is no reason to let these drugs become legal.
A big problem related to drug abuse is mental health problems and people needing a way “out” or not knowing how to cope with current issues in their life while being sober, so they turn to drugs. In doing so, the use of these drugs starts to become a habit and turn into the addiction and abuse of the selected drug starts.
