Every year, more than 3.5 million children under the age 14 need treatment for sports injuries, with nearly half of all sports injuries for middle and high school students caused by overuse(Inetwork, 2017). This means that kids are being worked out to hard and play too much. Kids should not have to practice their sports everyday. 1.35 million kids a year get a serious injury from playing sports that are too competitive. It is getting to a point where the kids are not even having fun when they are playing sports, they are just playing it to win.
Second nearly 25% of people who get concussions are not given medical assistance. Lastly sports injuries are the most common way of getting a concussion. (Sources Paul Hornung Sues the Helmet Maker Riddell Over Concussionshttp://mrshatzi.com/files/paul-hornung-sues.pdf Belson July 7th 2016) Another reason competitive sports are not good for you is because you can get injured not just from concussions but serious
This is why youths shouldn’t play football. Some say kids should be allowed to play football even though there is risk of concussions. Youths are very susceptible to concussions so they should not be allowed to play football. The number of kids in emergency rooms because of concussions has gone up. “Between 2001 and 2009, the number of kids under 19 visiting emergency rooms for concussions each year increased by 62 percent.”
Plus 0.35% of children get cancer and is always being overlooked. Childhood cancer research is vastly and consistently underfunded. Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 15 in the U.S.One in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer by the time they are 20 years old. Every year, an estimated 250,000+ new cases of cancer affect children under the age of 20 worldwide. Two-thirds of
Concussions are high on the rise and make athletes very vulnerable and prone to them. Among male athletes, sports resulting in the most concussions include football, ice hockey, lacrosse, wrestling, and soccer. For female athletes, soccer, lacrosse, and basketball were recorded for the sports that resulted in the most concussions. Youth athletes who have suffered one concussion, onset greater chances of experiencing more.
Speaking of stress,"55% of adolescents are stressed out from school, especially finals week" based on a study from the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. Expectations are highe geralt / Pixabay r than ever and the unwanted pressure doesn 't make them easier to achieve. Often times students put themselves under enough pressure, telling them they have bad grades doesn 't help. The biggest problem is that there is no relief. Youth sports were played as a release and your coach told you before every game to go out and have fun.
While teachers use books that are falling apart and students sit in worn desk, the sports teams find their new uniforms and equipment to be in pristine condition. For example, Premont school spends about “$1,300 a player” on the other hand, “Math, by contrast, cost just $618 a student” (Ripley). Premont school is a perfect example of how misplaced funding is for education. Putting the sports teams’ wants over the students needs proves that many high schools find sports to be more important than a child’s education.
“The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are committed to improving crisis services and advancing suicide prevention by empowering individuals, advancing professional best practices, and building awareness.” (suicide prevention lifeline) The rate of teen suicides continues to soar in the United States. “In 1960 the suicide rate among fifteen- to nineteen-year-olds was 3.6 per one hundred thousand.”(Ojeda,2004)
Firstly, college as well all know is quite expensive and is continuously increasing in price. Tuition fees have basically tripled in the past 20 years. Many parents do not earn enough money on an annual basis to pay for their children’s higher education; therefore they start saving from when they get married in order to be able to cope with the payments. Many teenagers try to help with the fees by achieving high grades during high school in order to attain a scholarship.
“Concussions are potentially one of the most serious, yet the most difficult to diagnose injury in sports,” (Hossler A1). MIllions of high schoolers play football each year, yet, at most, 10 people die each year from the sport. Why do kids keep playing it then? Most of them like it because of the physical aspect, being able to hit other people and is also a good way to keep fit. They also get enjoyment out of it because it’s fun.
The National Football League has been around since the year 1920, growing from “14 member teams in 1920 to the current 32 teams today.” Depending on the contract with their current NFL team, the total contract of a player worth can be a huge some of money; we are talking tens of millions of dollars. Some would say these players deserve these seven or eight figure contracts, as they entertain millions around the world, and are part of the big business we call the NFL. Others would argue that they are paid too much money to do a sport that some High School students have to pay to play.
Over the past few years the NCAA has been in the news for suspending players for illegal merchandising and benefiting from their likeness. This has kick started the argument that college athletes should be paid, some would argue that getting a scholarship is paying them enough. But the NCAA makes millions of dollars on player likeness every year and the players do not get a dime. It is the responsibility of the NCAA to provide a thorough education to subsidize athletes for their likeness that brings the university they play for millions of dollars per year. NBA basketball player Shabazz Napier has had major success at every level of basketball.
For many years, people have debated whether or not school sports are good for children. Many people have stated, that after their students have been removed from sports, they have had an increase of some kind in their grades. Therefore, schools should eliminate sporting activities to save money, give the United States a better title, and help students boost their grades in class. Because of how the country is with money, it is a very substantial thing for schools, so taking sports out of their system will help provide their students with more academically pleasing activities.
There are many ways of staying out of trouble. You can stay home, hang with the right crowed, just do not do dumb things. One way that has been proven by many would have to be playing sports in or out of school. Around 1852 when Massachusetts became the first state to require all kids to go to school, in 1917 the final state passed similar laws. In 1903 new york created an athletic league for boys, later on in 1910 17 other cities across the U.S. followed creating their own leagues.
