We live in a world where phones are almost a necessity. Everywhere people are on their phone; it's hard to go somewhere without seeing someone on this piece of technology. However, what people don’t know are the many negative impacts of using a cell phone. Although cell phones are extremely useful and amusing, cell phones negatively influence your health, communication skills and education. First, cell phones are destroying peoples’ communication skills. 75% of teenagers own cell phones, and 25% use them for social media, 54% for texting and 24% for instant messaging (Hinduja & Patchin, 2007). In a study, researchers examined the impact of mobile phone usage, during a class lecture, on student learning. Participants in three different study groups (control, low-distraction, and high-distraction) watched a video lecture, took notes on that lecture, and took two learning assessments after watching the lecture. Students who were not using their mobile phones wrote down 62% more information in their notes, took more detailed notes, were able to recall more detailed information from the lecture, and scored a full letter grade and a half higher on a multiple choice test than those students who were actively using their mobile phones (Jeffrey H. Kuznekoff). Phones in school can be used for emergencies and for educational purposes, however, just using your cell phone in school can lead to poor marks, which can lead to an unsuccessful future for most. For most students, the two biggest factors when it comes to grades are potential for scholarship awards and potential for college acceptance. There are so many career paths that you cannot go on if you receive execrable grades. Since cell phones can demolish face-to-face communication, can lead to crucial health issues and terrible education problems, we should put a halt for cell phone
