Smartphones do more harm than good!
Are smartphones good for you? The answer to this question is obviously arguable. Personally, I disagree with the statement. Smartphones are rapidly advancing technologically; however many experts and parents are debating over whether they do more harm than good. Although smartphones harm us in some circumstances, the amount of good it does overweigh the amount of negative impacts caused by it. Smartphones are one of the basic needs after food, water and shelter. These are well known across the world as they are the most common forms of communication. Multitasking is one of the key advantages of them, they can be used to communicate across the world, entertain you, or even with your schoolwork and help you achieve good grades. However, theoretically these devices are the fundamental cause of grades dropping from A’s to F’s. The research show that 44% of all teens who take their smartphones to school have texted at least once a day or more while studying in the class. Furthermore, this tells us that students aren 't paying attention to their studies, despite their grades falling, reducing their chances to get into good universities.
Given various disadvantages of smartphone use among students, there are some important benefits that have changed the way students learn in a relatively positive manner as well. With smartphones, students get a whole new world of research and applications that students earlier were deprived. Whilst earlier,
Katie Hafner’s article “Texting May Be Taking a Toll” divulges that texting is becoming a major issue among teens, leaving parents and teachers struggling to find ways to keep up and get it under control. The article begins by proposing that teenagers are texting more and more often and it could be taking a toll on their health; sleep deprivation, stress injuries, failing grades, and many more. The author illustrated this by saying “...it is leading to anxiety, distraction in school, falling grades, repetitive stress injury and sleep deprivation,” (1). This quote specifies that kids are more focused on their phones and the text messages they are receiving, then they are on their classes, grades, getting adequate amounts of sleep and their
Turkle states that, “the mere presence of a phone on a table between them (two people) or in the periphery of their vision changes both what they talk about and the degree of connection they feel.” While this may be true, along with the other studies on how technology is detrimental to society, there as also positives aspects that contribute to society as well. “It is not about giving our phones but about using them with greater intention” (Turkle). This quote by Turkle embodies how I feel about the technology debate and the more new technology and phones have developed the more we have analyzed whether or not they are good for our society, and at what age kids should use them.
There is really no limit to the things that can be done on a smartphone. Yet, with all this information streaming through our population’s mind, no knowledge or substance is gained. The likelihood that a teenager would pick up a book or go outside when they could instantly be absorbed in their phone is doubtful, even though this is often the less mentally and physically fulfilling option. Behavioral changes from one generation to the next naturally occur little by little. Nonetheless, changes in adolescent behavior from the millennial generation triumphing it have been substantial and revolutionary. Today’s teens have never witnessed a world without internet. The majority of them possess smartphones and waste several hours each week on social media. But while numerous parents may feel allayed about their teens’ seeming uninterested in drinking, driving and dating, they could perhaps be overlooking the effects that continuous internet access has on their teens’ mental well-being.
Sixty five percent of students sneak their phones in school, and are distracted by it.” This means that other students are losing focus while trying to learn. Teachers also have a hard time teaching when a cell phone is constantly interrupting the class. The effect of this are students and teachers will not be able to continue on working lesson plans. The Results of this is kids falling behind on subjects and performing worse than schools who ban phones.

Cell Phones In Schools Despite the fact that cell phones may be used for educational purposes, phones should still be banned from schools due to texting and posting, cyberbullying, and a use for non - educational purposes. As a student, I am faced with the problem, “No Cell Phones in Classrooms”. Many students like to bring their cellphones in class. The one problem however is, “What are you doing with your phone?”
Technology is everywhere. In people’s homes, public areas, and in teenagers’ hands. Cell phones have become a part of teenagers’ lives and cannot be taken away. Teachers don't want kids’ texting in class when they're trying to teach them important things. We should not bring cell phones in class because it can affect to their listening skills, first, it destruct students from the lessons, the students will keep texting and texting because the students is addicting of cell phones and they will never understand what is the lesson about. Second, the students could cheat on test; we all know that our society is more in high technology. There is Wi-Fi’s everywhere and also there are pocket Wi-Fi’s, broad bands, and load data’s that can use in surfing the net. So, if they take the test they can use their cell phones and cheat on the test.
In other words, have fun with it. Also, when parents want to reassure their teen, parents can do that by calling him or her. However, parents do not recognize that by giving a teenager this kind of devices might affect them in a negative way. In these days, thousands of teenagers are suffering from the bad effects that a cell phone led to them. Health, communication, and crimes are the major effects of cell phones.
