Since 2017, there are 2.46 billion social media users. Many people use social media to follow their friends, and some people use social media to brighten others’ day. After reading one of the article,” Student examines negative effects of social media on teens” by Aurelie Krakowsky, which discusses the harmful side of social media, and talks about how it affects kids. After reading the other article“The Upside of Selfies: Social media isn’t all bad for kids”, by Kelly Wallace (CNN), which shows that social media can be beneficial to teens,and how it helps them. After reading the two articles, it has been concluded that social media can be harmful; but, there is more evidence to support that social media can be beneficial.

The text states,”After a Christian motivational speaker, who believes ‘dateable girls know how to shut up,’ spoke at a high school in Richardson, Texas, students took to Twitter to express their outrage.” This proves that students were not afraid to stand up what they believe in and support it on a media platform, such as Twitter, and social media is being their voice. According to the text,The Upside of Selfies: Social media isn’t all bad for kids”, by Kelly Wallace (CNN)” They want to be able to see, for better or for worse, really quick action and social media allows them to create positive, meaningful change quickly.” The author also states,” ‘Teens and this generation in general want action,’ said Elena Sonnino, a founder of the site Live.Do.Grow, social media strategist and writer who focuses on engaging tweens and teens in using their voice for social good.” This shows that in the first quote that social media is inspiring kids to project their voice, and even in the second quote, it states that kids want action and that teens are using social media to be heard.
