Children who watch a lot of television programs tend to work less on their homework and retain less skill and information when there is a television on the background. Also, they have trouble paying attention to teachers because they are used to the fast-paced visual stimulation they see on television. Kids who watch more than they talk have difficulty in adjusting from visual learners to aural learners - learning by listening. When they don’t have adequate sleep because of television, they become less alert during the day that results in poor school performance, and they may have shorter attention spans. Like social media, television can also promote negative behavior to
The first reason that goes along to prove the fact that media violence does cause real world violence is the fact that there is no scientific evidence that shows violent media will ever have a positive effect on young kids, but there is plenty of evidence that proves it has a negative effect on children. Another reason is that some children are more prone to aggressive behavior than others. Finally, children may become “numb” to

The opposing side’s main argument is there is a lack of evidence to support the idea that aggression and violence can be caused through watching violence in TV shows and movies. They claim aggression and violence is not a direct link to tv violence. This is inaccurate because studies have been conducted for over fifty years and the results are remaining the same. A study was done “by an expert panel convened by the U.S. surgeon general, concluded, "Research on violent television and films ... reveals unequivocal evidence that media violence increases the likelihood of aggressive and violent behavior in both immediate and long-term contexts." Hundreds of original empirical studies of the link between media violence and aggression have been conducted, and numerous reviews of those studies—both narrative and statistical—have come to the same conclusion”(Senate Committee).
lex I agree with you that video game violence is not the reason behind why children act out and have violent behavior. I like how you point out that before video games there were other forms that we as a society would point towards and give life to the reason why we have violent behaviors. I know we even look at sports, and when there is an issue of rape or domestic violence they say that the aggressive behavior from the sport gave rise to this action. Could it be that they just have a natural violent behavior from things outside or that they view rape as more acceptable in their mind. I recently just saw a poll that was given to high school students about whether or not they view certain situations as that it would be acceptable for rape
