A hoard of swashbuckling pirates raid the rich and seize as many goods as they can carry. Bodies are spread across the plaza surrounded by the clamour of screaming bystanders. This is the word piracy taken to a particularly literal sense. Modern piracy consists of the illegal, online distribution of music, movies and other forms of media. Made effortless due to the size and influence of the internet. This has sprung numerous debates regarding the ethics behind pirating software and whether those who pirate content should be punished. It’s safe to say that most of the people who have used the internet have pirated in some way or another, whether it’s watching an episode of a TV show online, or downloading a movie for personal use. It is imperative to discuss this subject before all those people are locked up for those minor crimes. Nonetheless, content creators are urged to respond for their products not being accessible to their audience. If they claim that their product is to be enjoyed by their clients then they must make it easily attainable. In an interview with Ted Sarandos, (Netflix Chief Content Officer) he explains the decrease in piracy through their movie streaming service. “…when we launch in a territory the BitTorrent traffic (method of piracy) drops as the Netflix traffic grows.
