Eight years ago an unemployed college dropout decided to make a youtube channel, he supported himself by selling hotdogs and art. He kept on making content and soon started accumulating subscribers. As of right now, Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, more commonly known as “pewdiepie”on youtube, is the biggest and most subscribed to channel on the app. With a following of more than 60M on youtube itself, his net worth is up to 20 million.He created a platform for himself by doing the thing he loved most, which was creating videos. Social media is a place for people to interact, share thoughts and ideas, and express their creativity. It is not only a place for fun but is actually very useful in everyday life. It helps students get more involved in school occupations causing them to do better academically. Social media helps many kids get involved with school activities and do things out of their comfort zone. According to semanticscholar.org, “A higher percentage of high users of social networking websites participated in and spent more time in campus organizations.”(“The effect of Twitter on college student engagement and grades”, semanticscholar.org) Seeing posts about other people with shared interests would boost their confidence levels and encourage them to try new things in school. “ Indicators of successful participation in school include consistent attendance, academic achievement, and aspirations for continuing education beyond high school.”(Extracurricular Participation and Student Engagement,nces.ed.gov) Not only does school participation help during the years, it helps to stay motivated in the future as well. Extracurricular activities overall improve your abilities as a student and the best way to get involved with those activities thru the help of social media.
