Along with poor neighborhoods, schools also come into play with inefficient resources for the students. Many schools in Texas experience severe budget cuts due to the fact that they are the second leading state in children enrolled in public schools. The state with filled with hundreds of failing schools that are suffering because of
When I was a high school student, I noticed as the years went by, my high school performed worse and deteriorated academically. Flashing back on this, I question why my high school performs worse each year, and why are other schools improving in my area. This trend begins to have detrimental effects on the student’s education since it creates inequality in the quality of education students in my high school receive. The white flight phenomenon and residential segregation create the inequality on the quality of education and resources available to students in K-12 education. White Flight is when many white families move out of the cities and into the suburbs.
The goods that were being imported after the Black Death were extremely overpriced but since the population size dropped the demand for food was lower therefore decreasing the prices of food (Spielvogel World History and Geography). It was challenging and unhygienic to exchange goods through trade or produce them thus the prices of imported goods shot up. To add more to the goods crisis, large amounts of farms and villages stopped producing goods simply because most of the people who lived there died. Since huge amounts of free land was left behind, people stopped paying their rent assuming that is was acceptable thus causing tax rates to decline. Financial businesses were deeply affected and destroyed because machines being used to build things were broken or abandoned and no one remained to fix them.
The Irishman invites him to join the John Reed Club, an organization for artists and writers. Richard ends up going to a meeting for fun and ends up joining the editorial board of its magazine, "Left Front." Richard starts meeting many now-famous artists, and becomes friendly with many different kinds of people and most of them are white. Richard is worried that they are secretly racist, but he loves being around these people because they are writers, they understand him. He finds that these people "believe in life" but Richards’s mother looks over the magazine and is stunned by the violence in the novel and doesn’t understand it .He tries to explain everything to her but she just does not understand the content of the novel.
Many people tend to stay in their current situation or do as they please and stay enclosed into their social environment because it is familiar, even if it is not the best thing in the world. I personally realized that the farther I try to go, the more set backs I face. Racism and discrimination are one of the major ones, and it is sad how we still have people like that in this world. I stayed at KU for a summer program last summer and I was going to my ACT prep. Class and my friend and I were being teased because we were simply you Latino males.
The spaces for socializing is required to be relaxing and entertaining, were individuals take advantage to network and develop friendships. Socializing requires a comfort space created through similarities individual have and the interests they share for each other. Language is a crucial tool for socialization because the forms of expressing and utilization of words are better understood among native speakers. The vast amount of Latin American students permit the Latino/as from freely communicate in their own language. Thinking what to say every time you want to speak is tiring and it creates preference on the group you socialize with, which in this case it will be within the same community.
“It is about ending the incredible despair that exists in many parts of this country where – as a result of unemployment and low wages, suicide, drugs and alcohol – millions of Americans are now dying, in an ahistorical way, at a younger age than their parents (Sanders).” Suicide, drugs, and alcohol are all hard hitting subjects to most, especially suicide. And the fact that he mentions young Americans are succumbing to these things evokes pathos because children are seen more innocent and untouched by society than adults. Therefore, seeing a child, adolescent, or young adult succumb to any of the previously mentioned things would be devastating for most to hear and see.
If you were to lie to those close it can break relationships and seen as a total break of trust. If you are honest to those you are close to and are blunt with them about serious issues it will build a stronger connection. Similarly, when speaking to new, unknown people being honest and genuine is the best way to build a strong connection. So why do politicians get to lie? I appreciate the fact that when running for a party you have to engage with the entire community and be all things to all people, but once they figure out that you don’t really agree with them there will be backlash.
The increase of police officer or SROs diminish the school 's’ efforts to develop academically engage youths because the SRO demoralizes the students by criminalizing them for minor offence. “The presence of police officers has increased student arrests on school grounds between 300 and 500% annually since the establishment of the zero tolerance policy” (Mallett 2015). Mallet’s findings illustrate that with more security on campus students are arrested more often for minor issues because the youths have a higher chance of being caught. Therefore, SROs are inefficient and cannot provide a nurturing, learning environment for students because the SROs establish a prison like environment (Mallet 2015). The arresting of at-risk students becomes a
It is important to remember that other’s can see thing we cannot, especially children as they have a perspective we may have forgotten through the years. Now it is important to differentiate critique and the common misuse of criticism; though these are synonymous, they seem to be misused. Criticism, in today’s world, is seen as judgement, whereas critique is a constructive analysis. We can grow through actively accepting constructive critique and criticism (the correct use of the word), because the reality is that we do not understand just how valuable it truly is. Elon Musk, an innovator and a proactive citizen of our society, said “A well thought out critique of whatever you’re doing is as valuable as gold.” So the question becomes just how much do you value
The essay by kozol shows the harsh reality about the uneven funds and attention given to the schools were many poor and minority students attend. During a visit to Fremont high school in 2003, Kozol claims that school that are in poverty stricken areas appear to worse than school that are in high class neighborhoods. Throughout the essay, kozol correlates between the south central Los Angeles high school and the wealthy high schools that are in the same district. When he learned the graduation requirement at Fremont and the classes the school had offer to accomplish this requirements, Kozol was amazed at how academically pointless the graduation requirements at Fremont and the classes to accomplish them were. Kazol compared this to AP classes
The precipitous decline of the area’s manufacturing base resulted in a loss of a job that allow skilled union worker to have a middle class life in south central los Angeles . The service sector, which had long been dominated by unionized African Americans earning relatively high wages, so they replaced most black worker with newly arrived Mexican and Central American immigrant worker. Because they would work for lower wage and cause of their lack of knowledge of understanding and speaking English. Because of the widespread unemployment, poverty and street contributed to the rise of the street gangs in Los Angeles central, such as like Crips and Bloods because they need money to survive. Many immigrants like the Koreans
Learning a new language is not that easy and he had to face that by being discriminated by people that were also Hispanic. For example, something that made Ricardo change as a person was the time where one of his teachers said a bad comment about Mexicans, basically saying that "Mexicans are not smart enough." Ricardo then realized that he needed to show them with facts that they were wrong. It took him years to finally defend himself from this negative people. That teacher that once complained about him ended up congratulating him for having excellent grades in her class, and those people who never tried to help him out, ended up trying to be friends with him.
How can undocumented Hispanic students prove that the American Education System is unfair? Hispanic parents come to the united states to provide their children a better life in a country known as the land of opportunity. About 65,000 Undocumented students graduate from high school each year, The educational condition of hispanics has been characterized by below grade-level enrollment, high attrition rates (over 50 percent) in many schools districts, high rates of illiteracy, low numbers of school years completed, and consequently, great underrepresentation in higher education according to Arias M, Beatriz from the American journal of education. “ultimately, the high dropout rate that has been the bane of hispanics education may prove to be the results of excessively inferior educational experiences endured by the youngster as they progress through the educational system.” ( Minicucci, Acosta, relapp, hernandez, and margolis.) “Grade retention among Latinos is linked to high school dropout rates, about 11% of Hispanic youth who had dropped out of high school had been retained in a grade at some point in their school career, compared to 4.3% of Hispanic youth who completed”.
One major effect is the laying off of teachers. Narric Rome, a senior director at the non-profit organization, Americans for the Arts, has brought this fact to light: “The entire system is very unstable; teachers are laid off one school year and brought back the next, or most times not brought back at all” (qtd. In Will less art). The fact that teachers are losing their jobs not only brings down the school systems’ quality, but it also hurts the already struggling economy. The cuts in arts programs has had the greatest effect on the students.
