The 1999 film Never Been Kissed is a story of twenty-five-year-old Josie Gellar, who is an undercover reporter who poses as a 17-year-old high school student. Josie soon realizes that fitting in in high school now is still just as difficult as the first time around. It is clear and obvious to her that the cool kids don’t want a thing to do with her, so she joins The Denominators, the school’s math team. She is having fun in her second life, but her career is on the line when she can’t come up with a story that doesn’t involve the school lunches, or clothing being returned after its been worn. Her brother Rob joins her in the quest of rediscovery and assists her in forging friendships with Kirsten, Kiersten and Gibbie, the most popular girls on campus. The film is laced with a variety of interpersonal communication between Josie Geller and the three girls Kristin, Kiersten and Gibbie. There are three basic communication skills that are prominent throughout the film, they include the social exchange theory, and the perception process. The social exchange theory suggests that people try to maintain relationships in which the benefits of the relationship will outweigh their costs (pg 291). In the case of Josie and the three girls, Josie knows that being friends with the girls will ultimately support her career. It is …show more content…
After selecting what stimulus to pay attention to, and then organizing that information, it is time to decided what it all means. After a night out at the club, Josie finds herself in a bind to get to school on time. She ruses to school to find everyone staring, pointing, and even calling her a looser (selecting the stimulus). She immediately tries to organize this data, and finally she tries to comprehend the meaning for this absurd behavior. Unfortunately for her she realizes that she has ‘Looser’ stamped on her forehead, which was the purpose for the name calling and
In the text it states that, “If they tagged her and ran, she stood blinking after them and did not follow. When the class sang songs about happiness and life and games her lips barely
Mrs. Schumacher Film Appreciation Final Paper Footloose When watching both Footloose movies the 1984 and the 2011 version, there are quite a few noticeable differences. I would like to start out by saying that the biggest one is the character choice. In my opinion Kevin Bacon didn't play a very good Ren McCormick. I believe that Kenny Wormald plays a better Ren. In my opinion the more modern version of the movie is a lot more up beat.
A Glimpse Into the Developmental Roles of Adolescents The Breakfast Club is a movie about five high school students who have to serve detention one Saturday morning. When each student arrives, the viewer gets a brief glimpse into the characters backgrounds. At the beginning of the day you can clearly see the separation among the five students. Claire is considered the princess, Andrew is the athlete, Brian is the brain, Allison is the basket case, and John Bender is the criminal.

Film reviews are a big part of the movie world because that is what people look at to decide whether or not they want to see a movie or not. The film I picked to write about is A Cinderella Story directed by Mark Rosman and written by Leigh Dunlap. This movie made its debut in 2004. The setting of this film is in San Fernando Valley. In this film, there are a lot of people that make up the cast but I will just talk about the main characters.
Introduction The observation took place in Panera Bread on October 7, 2015. It lasted one hour, and went from 5:15 PM to 6:15 PM. Five adolescents were observed, within the confines of 3 separate social bubbles. My focus was divided between on a group of 3 white females, aged around 18-19, one black male, aged 17-19, and one white white female, aged 12-13.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like trying to lose a guy within a 10-day time frame? Well, if you said no, I would be in the same spot as you. I have never imagined it, but if I did I would be able to find out how to do so in the movie, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 days.” This paper will summarize the movie, a gender theory portrayed in the movie, the communication styles between the couple in the relationship, everything Andie does in order to end the relationship, and some of the typical stereotypes that are portrayed throughout the entire movie. I analyzed “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Day,” because I have watched this movie a lot of time and I wanted to watch it again and pay close attention to some of the ideas we have talked about throughout this semester.
In Kiss and Tell, Alain de Botton humorously describes a situation between tactless and socially oblivious parents and their uncomfortable adult daughter, Isabel, who is on a date with her new boyfriend. Using immaturity and a lack of etiquette in the actions of the characters, multiple examples of irony, and the anticipation of Isabel’s father’s actions which all ultimately lead to a comedic effect, de Botton produces a universal experience that brings humor to the audience while commenting on family dynamics. To depict the immaturity and lack of etiquette in the actions of the characters, de Botton uses juxtaposition in the setting, onomatopoeia, and other literary devices. De Botton intentionally sets his story in a theater with an “elegantly

INTRODUCTION “We conclude that in the field of public education the doctrine of ‘separate but equal’ has no place.” -Chief Justice Earl Warren Separate But Equal, directed by George Stevens Jr, is an American made-for-television movie that is based on the landmark Brown v. Board of Directors case of the U.S. Supreme court which established that segregation of primary schools based on race, as dictated by the ‘Separate but Equal’ doctrine, was unconstitutional based on the reinterpretation of the 14th amendment and thus, put an end to state-sponsored segregation in the US. Boyhood embodies coming of age where the director Richard Linklater with Mason Junior, Olivia (Mason’s mother), Mason senior (Mason’s father and Olivia’s ex-husband), Samantha (Mason’s sister) builds an emotional saga which enumerates individual emotions and relationships. Linklater made film history by shooting the motion picture for 4-5 days (consistently) for the traverse of 12 years just to draw out the progression of time. Boyhood is an intimate movie which covers relationships between children and parents, adolescence, and child psychology, and further exemplifies the development of a six year old boy to an eighteen year old man, where the characters go through a series of emotional and physical changes, Mason’s voice drops, he grows taller, his parents grow older, you can feel the adolescence oozing out of the two
Gender roles and stereotypes are commonly known throughout society and continuously demonstrated as film as well. Through the work of director Judd Apatow, we can compare these stereotypes to the portrayal of gender in Knocked Up and identify how this film pokes fun at gender stereotypes. As we watch this film and follow the story line of Allison and Ben, we can see how Apatow reversed the gender roles of the two lead characters, Ben and Allison and how this effected the films meaning. In romantic, geek centered comedies such as “Knocked Up”, the roles of men and women are often reversed.
Gabriella Montez’s primary stereotype is the “nerd.” The first time Gabriella is seen, she is reading a book. This is a common indication used throughout the film industry that leads viewers to make the assumption that the character in question is introverted and intelligent. When Gabriella transfers to a new school, it is made clear that she is in fact academically talented. She is referred to as a “freaky genius girl” and “an Einsteinette.”
