Since the dawn of the scientific revolution, historical advances has been made for the pursuit of a finer and a stronger understanding of life. But, not all advancements has benefited our society. Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower addressed concerns regarding these developments in his “Farewell Address” speech. As his final speech as president, he leaves his audience with a message that may have shocked some listeners. Not to mention he also gave his thoughts on how we should go about solving our issues as a nation. In one aspect of his speech, he speaks on the military industrial complex, which has similarities to our food industrial complex in terms of complications. To further demonstrate these complications, author Michael Pollan sets out to discover what goes on behind the closed doors of the food world in his novel “The Omnivore’s Dilemma”.

There were many technological innovations during the Gilded Age and most came from great minds of men like Carnegie, Vanderbilt, and Rockefeller. These innovations, such as the railroads, steel, and electricity, helped pave the way towards the strong and powerful America we know today.

Many people do not realize how fortunate they are to have the medical advances and medical technology we easily have the right to use. People from many years ago did not have specialized doctors and medicine to cure their diseases that we easily have access to today. (Ramsey) Many civilizations used what they thought to be alleviating processes, but medical experts today know now were pointless and dangerous. Among these people were the Elizabethans. (Chamberline) The Elizabethan Era was a time of accusations. People believed certain procedures were curing people when in fact they were killing them. (Ramsey) They also blamed mysterious acts they could not explain on innocent people, creating a handful of superstitions we know and use today. You will be surprised when you find out how much medicine has changed over the years. In the 16th century medicine was viewed differently than medicine today. There were several areas in which medicine has changed since Shakespeare’s time. Some of the areas that have changed are in the areas of prevention, treatment, and illnesses.

Think about it people could never go home for the holidays in time! After the Wright Brothers impact, Starting 1909 people began relying on planes for transportation. Why did it take 6 years for planes to become popular? It took 6 years because many accidents happened with planes. This caused people to be timid of riding planes. Slowly after the 1900’s different types of planes were being made and they had certain purposes. Big sturdy planes carried a lot of cargo, long thin planes carried passengers. Now almost everybody has rode a plane, it is really an amazing mode of transportation!
