Newsletter Article Outlines
You were assigned a topic for a Dept. of Communication newsletter article.
The first step in writing this article is to outline it. This is due at the beginning of class on October 10 on Blackboard.
Your outline should include the following information.
• What is the main point/goal of the article?
The main point of my article is to cover complementary majors/minors and state how they relate to Mass Communications. The main goal is to get Mass Communications students interested in other majors/minors, so that they might consider double-majoring or picking up a minor. This is also useful to students who need to take filler classes and still want to be entertained by the topic of the course. Also, this will allow

The main audience is the current students of Frostburg State University, specifically in the Mass Communications Department. Also, there are many others that will be reading this article including: professors, alumni, families of students, local towns people, and potential future students.
• What information do you have to support the main point of your article?
The main way I will relate these majors/minors to Mass Communication will be by covering the courses and interviewing the professors. I will ask: what the courses are like, what the course covers, how they relate to Mass Communications, what is there benefit, and why should you take them?
• Will you interview anyone? If so, who? Why?
I will be interviewing the head of each department, along with professors. This will include: Pr. Dodge, Pr. Hodges, Dr. Jacqueline Brown, Dr. Kevin Kehrwald, and Dr. Andy Duncan. The reason I will be interviewing these people is because, it would be nice to have direct quotes from faculty regarding their department. I will also interview students in these courses to get an impression of the courses.
• Include interview questions and interviewee contact information (you should be reaching out to these people now to schedule times to talk in the next

It was self-explanatory at first when determining what was needed, but initially I had issues in finding the articles due to the limited nature of the topic. What were more available were books, and with I looked at the author’s background and what validity they posed to the research being conducted. One of the biggest things I was looking for, was relevancy. It had to be relevant and fit my criteria in terms of what I needed for my research. What seemed to be the easiest part was the outline to help my assignment.
Our goal in this project is to analyze news mediums and how they

Over the years, mass communication has been defined in several ways. While some view it as a process, others perceive it as a skill. But apart from these two classifications, I particularly view mass communication as a tool since it is an essential device that can be used in one’s everyday life. It is an instrument all humans can make use of in delivering their intended messages to their family, friends and even to strangers. Charles Berger and Richard Calabrese suggested the same perception as they proposed their theory called the Uncertainty Reduction Theory.

Most helpful was CALSO, meeting with the Counselors in Barrows Sociology Department during CALSO, which allowed me to declare my major early. Next was meeting with Danny in DSPS, Yuki and Briana whom each gave me excellent advice on taking 198 and 198BC classes my first semester. Their advice has made my new student experience less
In chapter 16, the thing that stood out the most to me was the importance of the audience. In the book it said that “finding and serving a specific audience is probably more important to radio now.” This shows how crucial the audience is. The ratings of the radio are taken in by different data and are important to the radio stations, so they can understand what type of listeners they are trying to reach. In class, we focused heavily on the personality you have on-air and how you must know your audience.
Michael gave out tips for having a successful interview and stressed the importance of having a LinkedIn page. The major fair was full of information for nearly every major offered here at Iowa State. Representatives and advisors from each major were present to answer any questions one might
