Before he ever set foot on a professional basketball court LeBron James signed a contract with one of the most iconic sporting goods stores, Nike. This was one of the largest deals in the history of Nike, which would affect both Nike and LeBron for the better. Nike, founded January 25, 1964, is a sporting goods store that sells athletic footwear and clothes. They were very successful with selling these items and were known for sponsoring the best athletes in the world. For example in the past they have sponsored Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the greatest soccer players to ever play, and also one of the most popular tennis player in the world, Roger Federer. From an ethos perspective, or a credibility standpoint, someone can look at Nike’s Success in the past. In the past Nike has accomplished a lot of goals and set the bar for other sporting goods companies. I believe that Nike has a credible name because of the vast amount of repetition of the Nike brand that the public sees everyday. Nike is a worldwide leader in the sports world and has sold millions of products all over the world. Additionally, someone can observe the pathos aspect of the advertisement, which means looking at the way the advertisement makes someone feel when looking at it. Examining this advertisement, it has an intense feeling to it due to the fact that the picture has been darkened the use of shading highlight LeBron James and the basketball shoe. Also by having the saying “Season Six, New Year. New Shoe. New Game.” promotes sort of a fresh impression to the Nike shoe like they are trying to reshape how the game is played in a way. Lastly, someone can explore the perspective of logos, which is how Nike persuades the audience by reason. The whole purpose of this advertisement was to sell a basketball shoe. When Nike chose LeBron to appear in this advertisement Nike knew that LeBron was a very famous basketball player and a lot of people looked up to him. Nike has sponsored thousands of athletes and some of them that Nike has sponsored have become some of the greatest sports players the world has seen. Nike’s main focus is sports and sporting goods, they promote to physically active people. When looking at any Nike commercial or advertisement it’s creates energetic feeling and makes the viewer want to be active. When Nike advertises they create a sort of a motivational story inside their advertisements. They promote the stories of these incredible athletes and their stories of how they became great sports players. I don’t believe that when Nike sells these products they are selling the consumer that they will be as good as a professional sports play for example LeBron James. I think Nike is trying to promote physical activity. When people buy these products they are made to be worn while doing physical activity. So when they have these major sports stars on the front of an advertisement selling basketball shoes they want people to buy these shoes and go outside and play basketball. The reason that Nike created this advertisement was that they were targeting basketball players to buy basketball shoes; more specifically Nike is targeting LeBron James fans.
