As a teacher, it is important to adhere to the 7 roles of a teacher. These roles include acting as a facilitator; acting as an interpreter and designer of learning programmes; acting as an assessor; acting as a subject specialist and manager, administrator and leader; being a mentor, a citizen and a member of the community as well as a lifelong student, researcher and learner (Polity, 2000).
However, my identity as an artist, a researcher and ultimately a teacher greatly impact how I interpret and practice these roles. This will be discussed in the points below.
My Artist Identity.
What defines me as an artist?
The essence of art is to self-express (Lynch, 2012). Thus, it is important for me as an artist to focus on self-expression. True

Teaching is a big part of me as I have taught many of my friends and other students. I have used my talent as an artist to give life to the words and diagram in the textbook. I have used my art to help people visualize abstract thinking and understand different concepts, especially when it comes to chemistry, biology, and physics. Through the art, I have tried to make a learning more of a fun and challenging by using the ideas of everyday objects. Because art has a more flexibility when it comes to how it is presented, I have tried to include my art and animation in different presentations.
Throughout history, photographs have been known to depict and represent culture, character, information, and ideology. Through specific elements of form, and close scrutiny, photographs give a representation of the “bigger picture” by providing content and invaluable information that text, on its own, does not produce. Dr. Carol Payne, a professor of art history at Carleton University, wrote an essay in 2012 for the Oxford University Press. This essay focused on the relationships between photographic images, Canadian culture and identity, and indigenous people. Her thesis was to discuss how an image can present a sense of national identity (Carol Payne 310).
A person’s hobbies say a lot about them as an individual. It is a universal truth that the people you surround yourself with have a major impact in shaping who you are, and the people that coincide with your interests can either change your life for better or for worse. For the past six years of my life, I have been a part of the fine arts community through band. Being a part of the band program has shaped who I am today as a person in many ways. It is in all parts my identity, interest, and talent, and in three to four months out of the year, it is my life.
Music Appreciation Essay Music today is something we can easily take for granted. Through class I have learned several important influences in music. The most significant composer in my opinion was Ludwig van Beethoven. I feel his works broadened music and took it to a whole new level.
1. Describe the skills or attributes you believe are necessary to be an outstanding teacher. Being an outstanding teacher goes beyond acquiring the competence and knowledge to deliver rigorous academic instruction to a diverse group of students. Outstanding teachers possess a multitude of qualities making them unique and unforgettable to the children they serve. I believe that outstanding teachers are passionate, inspired, creative, compassionate, patient and understanding.
In a learning environment, teachers want to help students engage with what they are doing to promote deeper understanding" (Kohn, 1997c). The student-directed learning theory implies that the teacher should share the
Artwork is what gives our life much more flavor to it. Life without art would be dull, and lackluster. Everything would be so basic, bare, and simple. Creativity is what really makes artwork amazing. People really enjoy some artists artwork, and are very passionate about it.
A set of characteristics by which something is familiar is an identity. People are able to recognize a chair by its flat surface and the legs that support it, however, humans adapt to this identity. For instance, there may be only one leg, but that does not stop it from being identified as a chair. When talking about humans the basic idea of identity tends to become perplexing. This does not stop oneself from identifying various people.
Language: the language that teachers use has to be high level, which conveys a sense of professionalism that is honourable, moral and dignified. Professional judgement: the teacher should be able to place the needs of the students at the center of professional judgement. The teacher should be aware of his/her individual values, personal experience, commitment to authenticity, decision-making processes and work towards providing sound judgement. There is a school of thought which says that judgement grows with time and implies knowledge and wisdom, that teachers’ judgment improves with time. However, it is essential to ensure that all teachers possess a significant level of professional judgment.
1.2 Statement of Significance Art can do lots of things that can create powerful and great changes in ourselves. Artist is someone that is so hard to read if we fail to understand them to interpret the underlying meaning behind their painting because it is their getaway to express their emotions and desires to the community. To accomplish this, the artists are communicating with the society by delivering their messages through their artworks.
Through this activity, the teachers assure that the learners are able to participate fully in the curriculum. As the supports given by the teacher the learners allow them to transfer their skills and knowledge to
Student Engagement A good teacher should know how to engage students in learning activities and be able to respond to diverse students needs in the classroom. The classroom observations I have seen these past week has shown me examples of good teachers. In all the classes I observed the students sat quietly and were always ready to raise their hands and answer questions. In my kindergarten class all the students were really into their assignments and wanted approval of their work from their teacher.
The arts in education can impact a person 's success in education. “A well-rounded educational experience that includes the arts is closely linked to academic achievement, social and emotional development, civic engagement, and equitable opportunity” (Velasco). Adding fine arts into the educational experience has strong benefits in and outside of the classroom. Studying the lyrics of music can teach students about syllabification, phonics, vocabulary, imagery, history, myths, folktales, geography, and culture.
Being a teacher is a journey that has much to do with learning about yourself and being aware that what happens in your classroom reflects only on how are you with yourself. Teachers are not conscious that they project into students, and that affects how things go in the classroom. I believe the first characteristic of a good teacher is that he/ she is always willing to analyze his/her teaching performance. Second the teacher is humble enough to receive input about the development and application of techniques, learning from it and improving.
