The fact that the wealthy were interested in Daoist morals is quite ironic due to Daoism’s focus on frugal living and modesty. Unlike the other two religions, Daoism didn’t pose any threats politically. Nevertheless, Chinese government convinced Daoist leaders to incorporate allegiance to ones government into their speeches. Daoism had no large impacts on any of the classical Chinese governments but it allowed people to concentrate on their beliefs instead of politics. That being said, Daoism is still practiced in certain parts of the world
He believed that people would be punished if they did something wrong and their soul could not be destroyed. There was life after death. (Chan 1957, 110) The Chinese supported this idea at that time. Moreover, there were no special restrictions on practice. The believers only gathered and gave incense before the picture of Amitabha.
Confucianism is an ethical and philosophical system, on occasion described as a religion, developed from the teachings of the Chinese philosopher Confucius .It has a monumental impact upon the life, social structure, and political philosophy of China for more than 2500 years. Confucius (/kənˈfjuːʃəs/; 551–479 BC) was a Chinese teacher, editor, politician, and philosopher of the Spring and Autumn period of Chinese history. My view on Confucianism Positive side There are five constant virtues in Confucianism: benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom and fidelity, as specified in the feudal ethical code. I think this is the ancient wisdom which can be adopted as the rule of behavior both in ancient and modern world. I know these five
Lecture 1: The Arts and Artifacts of Greek Mythology Hello and welcome to the 1st Annual Mythological Seminar and Luncheon at the Crystall Inn Library. Throughout our seminars we will discuss Greek mythology and how it relates to art, cultural values, and how it’s impacts our modern day society. As you know, Greek myths just as any myth, are traditional stories meant to explain how and why things happen. Some stories have maintained their beliefs while others have revolutionized into mere representations and theories of the past. Nevertheless, the Greek myths are a profound part of society and have inspired tradition and customs onto the world.
Chinese people believe that only those who are concerned with and practice filial devotion to their parents would be honest, faithful, and be grateful to others and seek ways to return their kindness" (Lao, 2007, P.19) To respect parents is the basic factor to achieve a harmonious family and is also the basic factor to have a harmonious country. The Chinese family is relatively more conservative than the American family.
This is because after Rome conquered many of the Hellenistic lands, they had all the writings translated and began teaching it. Also, the highly educated were sent to Greece to for their learnings. Greek influence carried into the Roman Empire. Through trade and conquering lands, Rome picked up many of the cultural habits of the Greeks. This could be seen in Roman art and architecture, and literature linking Rome to Greece.
In many cases though, the effect of being alone does not cause loneliness in some people. I feel that the consciousness of being alone is not depicted by others, but yourself. Our mind is full of thoughts and ideas. We are stuck with it for the rest of our lives and it really does play the part of another companion standing by your side as if you conducted the positive side to their negative sided magnet. To be able to abide by the presence of loneliness, you would have to see yourself or your mind in general as something not worthy of acknowledgement.
These are just two stereotypes associated with introverts. I categorize myself as an introverted person because I find the most pleasure in being alone or in a calm environment. Paragraph 1: According to WELLNESS magazine author Alena Hall “Introversion is more about how do you respond to stimulation, including social stimulation. So extraverts really crave large amounts of stimulation, whereas introverts feel at their most alive and their most switched on and their most capable when they are in quieter, more low-key environments,” (pp.1). I connect with this statement because I personally struggle with my responses to people in casual conservations.
Throughout my essay I will discuss what Confucius means about this virtue and how he values it, and will link it into the three sections of contemporary society: The increasing of human interconnections, the evolution of the human way of life and factors such as cultural and technology that have transformed. People who are defined as humaneness are loving and kind and think of others before themselves. They are individuals who have patience in doing things to make sure they are done right. Confucius did not have one definition for Humaneness, he
Now I'm working on loving myself, maybe that way all my problems will get solved and eventually all loose ties come together. Society has to open people's minds and teach them that there's no Dreamland out there. And by dreamland, I mean that there's not only one type of body. Not having that one certain body shape it doesn't mean anything. People need to look deeper than that because people actually care about you, people love you no matter your body shape.
