The purpose of the bank is for countries to store any extra food in the bank so that countries which are in need can withdraw this food (586). However, this bank will only encourage poorer nations to rely on the food of other countries to sustain their rapidly increasing population. The poor countries will be greedy and only take food without adding food to the bank. This unequal sharing of food takes away the potential for the generous nations to increase their own population. The bank will also remove the natural checks in place on poor countries.
Local markets typically bring in less money than the average store or supermarket. The larger industries are able to keep up with the ever changing regulations, and local farm owners fall so far into debt they are forced to sell their property. Although not illegal in other countries, farmers struggled with the ethical practice of the product. Farmers were not supportive with the production of GM seeds due to religious, social and cultural conflicts (Hail & Vredenburg, 2003). However, other farmers found that the growth was less work and less land was used, as the crops grew rapidly. With a growing population, farmers realize that they need to grow more food. The Monsanto Company vowed to assist farmers by creating GM seeds that are more drought resistant.
Farmers have to pay for technology that helps them keep up the land, and they usually have to pay people to help them because not all farmers can keep up their land by themselves. Also, restrictions from fossil fuels is another major issues for farmers. Fossil fuels help create fertilizers. Without fertilizers, crops would be vulnerable to pesticides and other things that would damage the plants. Today, people waste plenty of food; we over order or eat, and then throw away what we don 't want.

At the G-8 meeting in 2009, it was realized that agriculture is two times as effective at reducing poverty as other industries. That meeting also created $22 billion of investments for agricultural development and food security. Obama created the New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition which is a private sector for investments toward African Agriculture, 70 local and global companies invested around $3.75 billion. Although, many obstacles are presenting themselves which are creating some of our goals farther and farther out of reach. With a population expected to be reaching the 9 million mark in 2050, the current food production needs to double to be able to feed all.
Healthy ingredient and nutrition are high cost and they won’t help companies earn profits. As consumers, we might feel disappointed and angry after reading Moss’s essay. Most of the food companies don’t care about consumers’ health. For them, following the market strategy and earning profit are the most important things. Food companies even change the nutritional profile to make those food products look healthier.
The cons however, are not worth the pros. The lower wage worker is usually working because he or she needs employment to survive (as do most of us). Because there are not many opportunities, the lower wage worker usually has more stress to try to make ends meet. Because they are paid less, they spend less and do not help stimulate the economy. They usually qualify for public assistance, which can drain the economy.
