Some schools have a year-round schedule, and some schools have a summer break. Even though the school year would seem longer, schools should go year round. We would retain more information, holiday breaks are still in use, and we get weeks off after a number of school weeks.
Since at least the 1970’s, the topic of year-round schooling has been debated by many people. This new system is spreading across the nation fast, in fact, in 2011-12, there were about 3700 schools that operated on the year-round schedule. (Zubrzycki 1,3). Like any other controversial topic, there are both benefits and drawbacks to the year-round schooling system. For instance, a definite benefit would be that, “...with one group of students always on vacation, a school that was built for 750 students can serve as many as 1000. This allows school districts with little or no money for building expansions to handle a growing student population and save millions of dollars in construction costs.” (Nair 2). Saving so much money could help schools afford better teaching equipment, which would most likely improve student grades. Next, a drawback is that it could be hard on families if the children have different school schedules. The change could make it difficult to plan a family vacation, go to summer camps,
“What’s your favorite time of year?” “Summer!” This is a common question asked by an adult, and a typical reply from a child. Of course summer is their favorite time of the year because they have summer break! 10-12 weekes full of sun and fun! What’s not to love? Well, if the year round school people get their way, these kids would be really upset. Year round schooling is becoming more and more common in USA. Although many schools still have the traditional summer break, many school are converting to year round schooling. From being unable to find appropriate child care, to a detriment to family structure, and a financial toll.
Whether year-round schooling should be enforced in Florida schools has been a recent debate. Florida schools should not take part in year-round schooling schedules because it makes sports and jobs very hard to get too, also year-round schooling gives teachers insufficient time to prepare for the next school year. Even though year-round school gives students more breaks, there is no proof that it helps students academically. So traditional school is better and should stay in Florida.
On September, when millions of students will be dragging themselves back to school from their two and a half month summer break. Where it was filled with adventures such as going to beach or going on a family camping trip. Many students have experienced where the teacher calls on them to answer the question and the first thing that might come out of their mouth is a long uhhhhhhhhh..... and having a hard time thinking.Well not anymore because now many kids across the nation are having a hard time at school whenever they come back from their summer vacation. The best solution to this problem is that school districts should change school to a 12 month program.
Despite the fact that about 26 percent of U.S schools have changed to year-round schedules, is having year-round school really the best choice? Sure, 15 day vacations every 45 days may seem interesting, but what about good old two month two week(ish) summer break? I think there shouldn’t be year round school. Whether or not there should be year-round school is an important question. There shouldn’t be year-round school because it would be hard to find babysitters for younger children for two weeks every six weeks for teachers with young students, and teens would find it hard to get summer jobs. Sure, it offers students frequent breaks, but there still shouldn’t be year round school because of certain predicaments for students and teachers alike.
The idea of year round school is starting to be more the topic of discussion. Many people are for the idea of year round education and many are against it. “If our country began on a year around schedule, it would have seemed bizarre to propose the summer- off schedule as a superior way to educate students” says Principle Hazel Colebank. Although some may feel year round school is great for bettering education, changing what’s considered normal could cause more harm than good. Year round school should not be used in today’s school, because it threatens family plans, teacher and student burnouts, and may become costly.
2.6 months of learning is lost per year because students forget what they learned over the summer (Priddy). The traditional school calendar, which gives students three months of relaxation and no education, is having negative effects as the years go on. Year-round school, 45 days of learning followed by 15 days off, would provide students a less stressful year and other benefits as well. There are currently 3,253 year-round schools in the United States such as, Beecher Community and Flint High School. California currently has 130 year-round schools making it the leader in America (“Year-Round School Education Statistics”). The most common year-round plan has 15 days during the fall, three days for Thanksgiving, 15 days for winter break, 15
My school system wants to make year round school possible, and this is an improbable idea. Year round school with longer breaks will help students be less bored, not forget information, and have more free time. When I return from summer break, I can’t even remember what 2 + 2 is! Summer break is too long and school should be year round with longer breaks throughout the year.
Tired of learning material during a school year, only to forget it during summer break? All-year school is becoming more popular throughout the United States. School systems are rapidly changing to this new phenomenon. If students went to school year round, there would a more efficient time schedule, less material forgot, and in the end, the students would have more days off.
I believe that schools should keep summer break for their kids. There are many ways, having a summer break contributes to schools and the community. It is an American tradition to get out of school for the hot summer months. Summer break gives kids and teachers a break and time to prepare for next year. All year school schedules can be complicated for families and school activities. I chose the side of summer vacation. Summer vacation is a better way to go than an all year school schedule. It is what all kids will remember for years to last.
We as humans separate ourselves from other mammals with the fact that we teach future generations to learn from our past mistakes. When presented with a problem that we have seen before we can solve the situation more effectively when using our learnt knowledge. One repeated result that has hindered our education system here in America is that several schools are not at their most efficient state. Year-round schools are advantageous for many schools. With a continuous learning flow, ease from overcrowded schools, and flexible calendar plans, many schools are able to benefit themselves from not using the traditional school year calendar, a plan that has been in use for over a hundred years.
School should be a year-round because then students will not forget their learning, be more focused on their education and it will be easier to earn their credits in a shorter period of time.
How much does summer vacation mean to you? That's the question many families ask themselves as they make the choice for year round schooling. With year round schooling students take several breaks, similar to a winter break in length, instead of one long break in the summer. Some people feel it is a terrible idea, while others say the academic aspect is superior. Although some people feel strong about year round schooling, year-round schooling is not the best educational option for students.
The first reason why kids should not have summer break is because we need to catch up in school. According to Carolyn Mctighe, she reports that the rest of the world is way ahead of America in the academic world. Even though kids think they need a summer break that averages out to about 3 months, they don’t. Just think in those 3 months what kids could forget, almost half of the information he or she learned in school that year (Mctighe). Kids need summers to learn not to take vacation because most students forget what they learned. In addition, Mctighe reports that the U.S. is falling drastically behind in school. In addition, she reports China’s education is ahead of the U.S by a lot. School year round is not that bad, kids get just as much or even more days off in the summer. It is very hard to get back to the school mode after a 3-month break. The first weeks of school are often spent reviewing things that students forgot over the summer
