5.0 Transportation as a source of noise pollution in construction activities
According to (Singh & Davar, 2004:1) Noise is derived from the Latin word “nausea” meaning ‘unwanted sound’ or ‘sound that is loud, unpleasant or unexpected’.
Then according to a study conducted by (González, 2014:1) about noise pollution, he adopts (Albert, 1997) definition to pollution which states that “Pollution refers to the presence or introduction of substances, organisms or forms of energy to substrates or media they do not belong to or exceeding their typical quantities, for enough time and under conditions that allow interfering with health and comfort of people, damaging natural resources or altering the ecological balance of an area.”

Demolition of buildings can cause serious harm to society and culture considering the degree of danger, and some difficulties involved in its activities. One of the existing problems that may be encountered is that of noise pollution which can cause safety hazards. Intrusive noise can be generated from demolition of buildings and basting of rocks especially with dynamites. Based on the analysis of noise pollution in the building demolition and blasting process, some effective measures have been put forward to reduce the effects on the society and environment.
6.1 Definitions
Noise is defined as a ‘sound that is unwanted’ by the individual exposed to it or an offensive sound that is intrusive in any of the daily activities that individuals are exposed to (Coventry and Woolveridge, 2003:57; Reddy, 2007:125). Whereas, sound is defined as a wave motion carried by air particles between the source and the individual receiving the sound, which is usually through the ear and is either high-pitched or low-pitched (Coventry and Woolveridge, 2003: 57). Both sound and noise are measured in decibels (dB), using a logarithmic scale.
“No employer or self-employed person shall require or permit any person to enter any workplace under his or her control where such person will be exposed to noise at or above the 85dBA noise-rating limit” (Department of Labour,

Some amount of it is always present but too much of white noise does not enable a clear conversation because we lose the signal. Answer 2: Impulsive noise is the one which occurs discretely.
Under work health and safety laws workers and other people at our workplace must take reasonable care that they do not adversely affect
Chemical explosions are one of the coolest things on the planet. A chemical explosion is the sudden, loud, and violent release of energy that happens when something breaks apart in a way that sends flying around(Explosion). The chemical explosions starts from the chemical reaction(Getting a Bang Out of Breath Spray). .
In the world of “Harrison Bergeron '' the society craves a standardized population in order to avoid self-disparaging emotions which in turn foster competition. One way that they enforce this is the use of various handicaps, one being earpieces. One protagonist, George Bergeron is described as having a higher than average intelligence. To ensure George isn’t able to use his brain more than the rest of the population, the government forces him to wear an earpiece that plays sounds at ear splitting volume. About the earpiece, Vonnegu writes that it is “required by law” and that the loud noises are necessary to prevent “people like George from taking unfair advantage of their brains,” (Vonnegut 872).
so I could just mute them would suite me but depending on the staff member some staff members might be a big harsher. Stimulated Hearing Loss Assignment For my stimulated hearing loss assignment I went to four different locations, which included ODU’s Café, CVS, the movie theater, and my apartment. I attendant these places with two of my friends who were also wearing earplugs. While completing this assignment I used HEAROS ear plugs, which had a NRR of 32.
The aim of this Act was to ensure welfare, health and safety of employees and other people who are visitors on the work premises. It also makes sure the safety of keeping and using of any substance that is hazardous, explosive or flammable and can endanger the life of employees or people present on the workplace premises. The Act outlined the general duties of employers to their employees and to any other person that enters the premises. It comply employers with documentation and reporting any injuries, accidents and diseases at work. It also enlisted employees’ responsibilities towards their own health and safety and towards each other (Elizabeth Rasheed, 2010), (Health and Safety at Work Act 1974: An Overview,
According to the Saskatchewan Employment Act (2013) Part III Section 3-1 (1) (j), the employer is defined as “a person, firm, association or body that has, in connection with the operation of a place of employment, one or more workers in the service of the person, firm, association or body” (page 67). The general duties of the employer are generally being met in both worksites. Although, it is ultimately up to the employer to ensure that employee’s safety and welfare is top priority. In the manufacturing plant itself, employees are not wearing their proper hearing and eye protection despite being provided with both. Employees at the contracted site are also not wearing the protective gear provided.
Silence is known as the lack of sound: the lack of words. It is also a well known fact that words can be dangerous, as people can spread false rumors and hate speech. However, silence, though it is a lack of words, can prove to be even more dangerous than the words of hate themselves. Reason being, though the silence can not be used to spread the hate, it does not do anything to prevent or stop the hate from happening. One of the best examples of the danger of silence is the Holocaust.
The first legislation I will discuss is ‘Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) regulations (2002)’ which is used to reduce the risk of injury whilst doing an activity. It can be used in any line of work, and you have to consider safety factors about it. When using personal protective equipment, they must check if it is suitable for use, if it offers the right protection for the user, or if it needs replacing, because if it needs replacing then it is not fit for purpose. The main areas where people use PPE is on the sports field or in a building site. For example a builder, as shown in the diagram below, is wearing a helmet to protect his head, goggles to prevent any dangerous objects getting in his eyes, gloves so his hands don’t get hurt when
Health and safety at work act 1947 The health and safety at work is the legislation, which covers the employees’ health and safety in the UK. The law requires a high level of management that employers must follow, they must look at risks and assess them and take a sensible measure to prevent these risks from happening. This policy and procedures is for Risk assessments and the fire policy/procedure. This promotes safety because care organisations have to make sure that they are able to provided a safe environment in a health and social care setting.
You may not realize it but these noises are fundamental, they form your everyday life. The dogs long claws clicking on the floor, scattering around. The warm breeze outside, hitting your face. Those are the small noises. Maybe you may not realize it, but without these noises life would be boring.
First, the widespread use of cars led to an increase in air pollution, as the internal combustion of engines from vehicles produced high levels of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and other harmful gasses. This polluted the air and caused serious health problems for people, particularly in cities where traffic was heavy according to (N.C. Government & Heritage Library). Secondly the noise created by the cars was a new form of pollution that was unheard of. The sound of horns, loud engines, and brakes noises disrupted the peace and quiet that cities were used to, leading to people complaining. Another danger was air pollution.

One of the most common drawbacks of the energy efficient construction is the high cost of enforcing. Although the additional costs are required to build and plan such buildings, they are balanced out by saving on energy expenditure; while, it is still extra money provided to build; thus, additional cost is valid criticism. In addition to this, building materials are not always available. The most noticeable negative feature of energy efficient construction is the environmental concern. Although it is environmentally friendly which produces less carbon emissions, it has slight unfavorable effects on the human health.
