When Planned Parenthood is brought up in conversation, people automatically associated their name with abortion services. However, Planned Parenthood provides a plethora of services ranging from women’s preventative healthcare to family planning service. In fact, Planned Parenthood prevents roughly 579,000 unintended pregnancies each year by offering a variety of pregnancy prevention options (Planned Parenthood, n.d.). Although I have never personally used the services offered by Planned Parenthood, being that I am a woman in a young age group that often struggles to find access to affordable health care, I have friends that are familiar with their services. I’ve also done some personal research myself in case I’m ever in a situation where
Planned Parenthood Federation of America is a nonprofit organization that establishes itself on health care, functioning as an outreach program as well as a provider of various medical services. The organization was developed upon the idea that women should have easy, obtainable access to information and care to ensure a healthy life. Planned Parenthood both promotes as well as establishes this motive as the program itself is “...based on respect for each individual 's right to make informed, independent decisions about health, sex, and family planning” (Charity Navigator). Planned Parenthood was founded on October 16, 1916, in Brooklyn, New York by Margaret Sanger and Ethel Bryne. Margaret Sanger was a strong advocate for women’s health rights,
In addition to Christina’s opioid use disorder, she is also pregnant and carrying twins. Her pregnancy has been complicated by her drug use, and that complication has been further compounded by the absence of prenatal care throughout Christina’s first and partially into her second trimester. One benefit of receiving treatment from the PATHway is that in addition to addressing her opioid use disorder, the program is also able to provide services from high risk obstetricians, nurses, and other supporting medical
Clark states, “Reversing an overdose with naloxone ‘buys’ healthcare providers another opportunity to provide treatment, and we know that with adequate time, treatment works” (Clark, 2014). Another common argument is that addicts abuse drugs by their own personal choice. Nurses can remind people that many people addicted to opioids begin their journey seeking relief from pain. Over time, and often through no fault of their own, their bodies become addicted to that relief. Aside from vocalizing support for this bill, nurses can integrate overdose prevention in their practice.
Offenders who are fortunate enough to experience these programs have showed significantly lower rates of recidivism than those who do not receive any reintegrative support. One of the prime examples is Circles of Support and Accountability; by working directly with sex offenders in a safe environment, helping them share their voice, and equipping them with tools to succeed in society, these offenders, “had a significantly lower rate of any recidivism (11.4%) compared with controls [offenders who did not experience a circle process] (38.6%). They also… had a significantly lower rate of sexual recidivism (2.3%) compared with controls (13.7%)” (Clarke et al, p. 21). These programs are imperative in helping offenders build up confidence and self-esteem so that they can reintegrate properly and safely into their community. By learning how to be genuinely accountable for their actions, past offenders who go through the COSA program are substantially less likely to reoffend, or at least reoffend to the same degree, than offenders who do not receive that kind of support.
One medical condition that can be detected by an ultrasound to see if there’s any possible cancer is called polycystic ovarian syndrome. This syndrome is brought on by a hormonal imbalance, causes irregular periods, acne, ovarian cysts, and infertility. These symptoms can be helped by birth control pills. So, removing a drug that’s benefitting a women’s well-being will cause not only a few but countless health concerns. Furthermore, the support that is provided by planned parenthood is to help the individual at a time of need.
Founded in 1916 by Margaret Sanger, the controversial federation known as Planned Parenthood continues to help millions of people internationally to resolve a variety of health problems. Because Planned Parenthood provides abortions, the government of the United States questions if it should continue to fund the clinic. However, there are several reasons, such as abortions, cancer screenings, and vaccines, that give rise to the federal subsidization of Planned Parenthood. Life does not always follows a person’s agenda, and Planned Parenthood knows that, which is the main reason it performs abortions. In 2005, a website named Guttmatcher Institute collected data concerning the women who request abortions from approximately 38 different
Immunizations can save a child’s life; due to the medical advances that have taken place, kids are now protected from many illness/ diseases. At one point in time, Polio was a horrible illness that is now preventable by simply receiving a shot (USDHHS, n.d.). Immunizations protect not only the individual receiving the vaccination, but others as well. Certain individuals are not suitable for specific vaccinations, therefore, if everyone else has the vaccination, the people who cannot are more likely to be safe from the illness (USDHHS, n.d). Generally, immunizations are safe, effective, cheaper in the long run, and can save families time.
I had the opportunity to visit the Rape Crisis Center. It is one of the programs of the larger, non-profit organization Partnership for Families, Children, and Adults (PFCA). In addition to touring the facility, I interviewed Caroline Huffaker, one of two case managers on staff, and Amy Griffin, the nursing director. The Rape Crisis Center offers holistic services that provide healing to victims of rape. These services include medical forensic exams (collection of evidence), medical screenings for other injuries, offer medications to help prevent sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy, case management, case advocacy, accompaniment to court (both civil and criminal) should the victim decided to press charges, resource management and referrals,
Education at the primary level and the proper delivery of important health information. Many of teenagers now are sexually active but don’t know how to use contraceptive methods. Education is the best approach in the promotion of health in this community and provide information on resources will be helpful such as health screen and HPV vaccination at health fairs should be disclosed. There are now many low cost clinics that have bilingual speaking staff that are available and can provide assistance with any health
We will protect the reproductive rights of women. We will keep the choice of abortion between the woman and her doctor. We cannot defund Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood helps men and women with general health needs. Planned parenthood provides free breast exams, prevention of unintended pregnancies, tests for STD 's, abortion services, and is the largest provider for sex education.
A medical plan that is solely for the underrepresented will help prevent health disparities is a program that provides free preventive care. The first agenda of this program will focus on prevention education. The goal is to make it easier for those who cannot afford health care. These services can help limit the
Farbod Esmailian at his facility in Los Alamitos, Calif. As an experienced cosmetic surgeon with nearly 20 years of experience, Dr. Esmailian provides his patients with beautiful, natural looking results. Addressing Breast Issues During a Mommy Makeover in Orange County During a mommy makeover, there are several procedures that can be performed to address these breast changes. While performing a mommy makeover, Dr. Farbod Esmailian can perform a breast augmentation to address deflated looking breasts; in addition, he can resolve drooping breasts and enlarged areolas with a breast lift. If a woman would like the size of her breasts reduced, Dr. Esmailian can perform a breast reduction during a mommy makeover in Orange County. Combining a breast lift with an augmentation during a mommy makeover provides Dr. Esmailian’s patients with fuller breasts that sit higher on the chest; thus, offering a perkier appearance.
The knowledge of the professed factors that cause depression can aid researchers in tackling these problems and this could help the prevalence of the illness reduce in this population. Similarly, they may find a way to present depression in a way in which sufferers in this ethnic group will be more willing to seek help. Interventions that are congruent with the perceived causes may present the best methods of treatment and recovery. In this way, the mental health service gaps could be reduced. Future research could classify participants on their length of residence in the country to see if there are any differences in the perceived causes of depression and the willingness to approach health care services.
Motivational incentives may be particularly useful for helping patients achieve initial abstinence from cocaine and for helping then remain in treatment. Programs use a voucher or prize based system where patients receive rewards for abstaining from using cocaine and other drugs. On the basis of drug free urine tests, the patients earn points, or chips, which can be exchanged for items that encourage healthy living, such as a gym membership, movie tickets, or dinner at a local restaurant. Studies show that this approach has recently been shown to be practical and effective in community treatment programs. Cognitive behavioral therapy is an effective approach for preventing relapse.
