Did you know that producing a solid relationship with your parents and demonstrating empathy can lead to a more nourishing lifestyle? Coming of age is the way a young kid is tossed into the real world as he or she grows up and matures. One tremendous element of growing up are the affinities you build with your parents. Another is the way you comprehend how to convey empathy toward others. Developing empathy towards others along with forming the status of your relationship with your parents creates a more capable and more tenacious personality and a greater insight into life. In “Nothing But The Truth” we are projected into the mind of a ninth-grader, Phillip Malloy. Throughout the story, Phillip creates a deep hate for his teacher Ms. Narwin, eventually leading to him breaking a rule in her class and being suspended by the assistant principal. His parents subsequently ramp the story up until it reaches the national news where the teacher was blamed for the suspension by the entire country. On page 24, Coach Jamison told Phillip Malloy in a meeting, “Sometimes you have to go along to get along.” Coach Jamison tries to convey to Phillip that if he wants to make it in life he will have to roll with the punches and continue on with life. Even though it might seem impossible. He completely ignores this great advice and his parents suggest another route. To stand up for his rights and advocate his thoughts. At the start, we are rushed into Philipe’s life. He sneaks into the house to avoid his mom. They always fight. After he strums the guitar he goes down to greet his mom in the kitchen where he discovers that his mom had done a lot for him throughout his life. Right then and there he comes to the realization that he needs to nurture relationships before they disappear. In the text, it states, ”Taken aback by her calm, Felipe found himself unsure of what to say next.” Philipe’s relationship with his mom has grown. In the start, we can see that Phillipe is sneaking into the house so that he doesn’t have to argue with his mom. He later comes to the realization that his mom is only trying to help and be friendly which was contrary to his beliefs at the start of the passage.
