I am a third year transferred student at UC Berkeley and am very interested in learning media studies as my major. After attending Media Study 10, I believe studying media would be an ideal direction for me to broad my knowledge and experience My interests in media started when I was teenager as a reporter in my school’s broadcasting club. There, I enjoyed reporting news and information but also had opportunities to understand the influence that the media could have to change our lives as I delivered critical issues. When I came to the U.S., I felt a discernible disjointedness between many different groups of international students, and believed this was because of a deficiency of understanding and communication between different perspectives. Anticipating I could influence others to open up and understand each other through media, I joined CalFocus in 2014, a nation-wide Korean-run press dealing with political, social, and cultural issues regarding international students in …show more content…
When I participated to interview House of Representatives Mike Honda in June 2015, he offered a powerful message in terms of tensions between U.S., Korea, and Japan, and I asked him what advice he would give to students in order to better approach my audiences, which was Korean and American students. I soon appreciated powerful impact of media on general perception, and began to awe at the prevalent impact media would have had in history and pursue further study its impacts. Honda’s initiative and well-rounded perspectives about the same topics influenced my own desire to be able to embrace and think from a wide variety of views. Through this experience, I learned I could influence others to open up and understand each other through media, and instigate diverse perceptions and views from
Hi, as mentioned in previous mails I made a small experimental Puppet resource type which uses the UserMgr REST API. I will post the source later. In general the UserMgr-API made a very good first impression, but the following issues make it hard to use the API for configuration management frameworks, like Puppet.
1. I would have gotten off of behind my desk, and greeted the client with a proper handshake. 2. I would have never gotten on my phone. 3.
Part 1: It would effect everything on the planet, plants would be less able to produce the suns energy and living organisms would be in big trouble. A short term effect would be decreasing plant populations and a long term effect would be a decreasing population of every organism on the planet. i. Much like the first one, if the sun was completely blocked producers could not produce, thus consumers could not eat them and get energy and the decompress could not break down the organisms if they're not alive. It would result in the overall extinction of living organisms on earth. ii.

Today’s society has an obsession with the media, to the length that the president of the United States will claim credible news outlets as “Fake news”. According to journalism.org, 57% of Americans receive their news from the television and 38% from the internet, as opposed to the 20% that receive their news from physical newspapers (Mitchell). The current societal obsession with the media is one predicated by many, and one that will continue
The last part of Setrakian’s plan of having a healthy media is the most impactful, but also the hardest to achieve. However, Lara Setrakian makes it a point to embrace the complexities of the world for one main reason. Setrakian believes, “news is adult education” and it needs to be addressed for a more global perspective (Setrakian). Similar to research conducted for students, research is being done for adults, because many believe globalization and international conflicts will affect everyone on this earth, so why not begin to address for all age
The Media is a common source that many people continue to use to get important information. Journalists are known for seeking out the truth and making sure the public hears it. When the media presents to their audience the details about popular events it influences the actions and mind set of many which could cause them to react negatively or positively. In the memoir, Warriors Don’t Cry by Melba Pattillo Beals, the citizens in the town called Little Rock frequently used the media as a way of getting their voices heard. From back in the day to now, the media still holds a high influence on everyone regarding important information down to the common day to day activity of others.

People like to participate in politics in many different ways. Most prefer to vote while others may go one step farther by volunteering for a political campaign or by giving money. At the far end, a few will run for office. No matter what way people choose to sound their opinion, they are still participating in politics. This is true, unless people retracts from participating in politics.
In The views of The Birmingham School, media culture induces individuals to conform to the established organization of society but it also lends resources that can empower individual against that society. (Kellner, D (1995)) In conclusion, calling attention to mass media, cultural studies relates to how the audience can decode the messages put forward by the media. An advanced degree is a potent symbol of commitment. The pursuit of college education requires the ability to explore ambiguities, to research and to defend positions on a variety of subjects and to express this information cogently. Each course of study mandates completion of peripheral learning activities necessary for comprehensive education. This type of learning is possible to attain independently. What distinguishes formal education is the opportunity for feedback and guidance from fellow students and professors who value learning for its own sake, rather than an adjunct to a particular trade.
My commitment to diversity began at a young age from my experiences of being marginalized and underestimated. I was born in Minneapolis, MN and moved to Seoul, South Korea at age five. Readjusting to changing society and economy of Korea was hard for my parents; for me, trying to fit in anywhere I go was a challenge in itself. However, all the challenges I experienced during my formative years shaped my interests in identity and culture and desires to be a role model for those who feel undervalued and invisible. I became aware of identity politics at a very young age.
The influence of media, upon cultural foundations, facilitates for challenging discussion, allowing one to develop understanding and further grow individual opinions’ and socio-political perspectives. This foundation could only be built upon in time with more access and more exposure to various media
