1. Prior to this week’s assigned reading my understanding of nature was one that is ever expanding, with atoms at the core. Being science and mathematics nearly always come hand in hand, I related math to be an essential matter as well. Through our reading I found connections through Heraclitus, as he understood our world as one of fire “meaning there is always” change and flux. Condensing the entire world into one substance is quite brave as the world as we know and understand is composed of many elements and substances. I also found relations to Democritus, as he was a pluralist, believing in the world being made of more then one part. He understood the world to be created by atoms. My relation of science and math could not help but relate to Pythagoras. His understanding of the world is rooted in numbers; numbers being the nature of all things. 2. …show more content…
Many modern thinkers in my opinion favor Democritus’ atomic claim as it easily aligns with many modern ways of thought. This is one reason it is appealing; however, this is not the only reason. The atomic way of thought is capable of being applied to many “things”. Where as with Thales, or Heraclitus’ ideology of the world being created by one substance is a bit harder to imagine all of our world’s features. Atoms are malleable in order to be many things while still remaining an atom. In some ways of thought Democritus introduced the atomic process, without disrupting the single substance idea. For example, a chair is a chair, if we take a closer look that chair is composed of atoms. The chair is not a chair because of its look; it is a chair because of its atoms. The same may be said for a table, a clock, or any being. With this in consideration is Democritus really a

I did have some trouble understanding what exactly was the project, but I now have some clue to what I'll be doing, however further clarification would help. I was able to find what was needed with no problem and complete what is now needed to be done. I've never used a the project section on black board before, but I don't think it will be anything difficult to use. I would guess that it something we'll need to be using for this class on our projects, but I'm not really sure, so I'll guess it's useful.
Unit 1 I have learned about so many different technology which is I am very interest about it. I am first time user for zoom video conference which was quiet interesting but I was nervous about talking on the video. I don't look good on video. Our team was little struggle about recording it

As you can observe in Figure 7, S7 completely scribbles the whole page and scribbles an ellipse in the middle of the page in a darker color.
As I look around the room, I’ve noticed there’s different type of readings and writing. There’s a man skimming through a magazine, writing down as he goes through it. He uses a pen and paper to write down, reading thoroughly until he finds what inclines his interest Probably a natural geography magazine. I question him what he is writing about, he responds that he is history professor and he finds enjoyment looking through new books and magazines about world war 2. As he goes through them he likes to make notes of what he finds is either interest or important so he can share with his students.
• Politicians who patronizes the species of government have reduced the mankind to a perfect equality in their political rights. • Madison explains the difference between democracy and republic. There are two main difference between them, I. First, the delegation of the government is small number of citizens elected by the
As Thucydides puts it “Athens [is] in name a democracy, but in fact a government by its first man.” Athens becomes a tyranny even if benevolent (57). In this case, Pericles’ interests fall in line with Athenian interests, but later demagogues will not and cause disastrous consequences for Athens. For example, Alcibiades will successfully argue for the Sicilian Expedition to “this command” to win glory for himself (117).

Paradoxically, the dominating nature of the Athenian empire is what gave Athenians freedom to self-govern, i.e. autonomia and allowed their democracy to flourish. This political freedom was the pre-eminent freedom, surpassing any idea of individual freedom. Individual freedoms amounted to slightly more than incidental side effects of the collective political. What is strikingly different in comparison to the modern perception of individual freedoms is the difference between the Athenian understanding of ‘a way of life’ and the modern understanding of a body of inalienable, well-defined rights that have a legal basis. The shaping of an Athenian identity gave way to individual freedom being understood as the Athenian way of doing things and was indeed quite unrestrictive, especially given its context – that is why the Athenians believed themselves to be so ‘free’.
History of the Atom Isabelle Bury 10G2 The concept of an atom was first created in the fifth century BC by two Greek philosophers. Democritus and Leucippus named them ‘atoms’ after the Greek word ατoμoν, because they initially believed that they were indivisible. Today, we know that atoms are made up of a positively charged nucleus, consisting of protons and neutrons, and that they are surrounded by fast moving negatively charged electrons. Although, before we knew the real structure of an atom there were many other theories and models that scientists came up with.
In compliance, Democritus whiffed freshly baked bread for the three days before she returned and then passed away. There are a few other unverified tales about Democritus in his later life, including that he blinded himself with hot glass to improve his mental faculties, although there are accounts that describe him dissecting animals and wrote he wrote many books which would conflict with his blinding, searching for the 'Philosopher's Stone' or that he lived in caverns. It is presumably true that he favored the withdrawn, meditative life, although it is not proved that he retired to caves. Democritus did gain some fame during the course of his life for giving public speeches. He gave these speeches to make a living and to not have seemed that he wasted all his inheritance on travelling, a crime, in his time, that would have denied his right of burial.
Pericles ' viewpoint is nevertheless argued in The Republic, juxtaposing the qualifications of the ruling power and their competence versus the incapability of the general public to foster such a magnitude of power. Using "Socrates" as a fictional protagonist, Plato critiques democracy in The Republic. Through this protagonist, he reflects on the value of merits such as ‘justice, ' that are prevalent in the configuration of society as a whole and in the character of an individual being. He condemns societal democracy due to its foremost features such as freedom and equality. Although freedom is of utmost value to Plato, he is of the faith that freedom concocted with such a form of governance may run the risk of chaotic mobocracy.
Change in respect of substance is coming- into-being and going-out-of-existence, or generation and destruction; such changes occurs when a cat is born and when it dies, when a statue is made and when it is smashed. Change in respect of quality is called alteration: a plant alters when it grows green in the sunlight or pale in the dark; a wax candle alters when it grows soft in the heat or hardens in the cold. Change in respect of quantity is growth and diminution; and natural objects typically begin by growing and end by diminishing. Finally, change in respect of place is motion. Most of the Physics is devoted to a study of change in its different forms.
