Since I was a little girl I have always been told to be on top of my studies and to go do what I love most. However, with college I am able to take on and obtain new knowledge to further my studies and do what I love most. I see college as another stepping stone into a great life and future. Being able to attend college is a blessing, this will help me understand and see the different perspective of the world around me.
According to an article done by Study.com you must take biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology and physics to achieve this degree. These classes are not only essential to getting into medical school but also to help with the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). The MCAT is a test that shows how much you know about the medical field and if you are “smart” enough for medical school. All my college life will be is taking any opportunity I can to get above everyone else. Medical school is very competitive so I will need a close to perfect GPA with a great MCAT score.
Ever since I was a little girl my dream was to grow up and be a doctor, and i still have that dream. Please describe any contributions of distinction during medical school (in any and all academic areas: research, teaching, teamwork, clinical care, and community service). One of my proudest contributions during medical school was identifying ultrasound education as something that I wanted to expand, so I worked with a small group of my classmates to start an ultrasound education program. The goal of our program was to help our peers learn how to use ultrasound imaging while gaining valuable anatomy and physiology education. We spent countless hours developing a curriculum, finding faculty mentors, and teaching first year medical students.
Pursuing a career as a nurse has been my primary goal since I was a child. I have been doing a lot of things that would help me get in and do well in the field of nursing in every way possible. Due to the extensive amount of my academic and professional work experiences, I am assured that I can do better than most people with the same goal. The field of medicine and healthcare has always appealed to me from a young age. Specifically, I became fascinated with the causes of illnesses, an interest that fueled my need to research and satisfy my curiosity. Throughout my academic path, I have focused on getting closer to my goals and have worked diligently. As a hopeful future undergraduate at IUPUI, I am eager to participate in the nursing program. Currently I am taking a class at my high school that will allow me to become a certified nursing assistant if I pass the state exam. Although I have only started this school year, I can tell that I have found my passion through nursing. With this simple goal, I plan to focus on my school work and dedicate my time at IUPUI. Besides the school aspect, I also want to participate in numerous extracurricular activities offered.
My short-term goal is to complete my bachelor’s degree. I want to do well in all my undergraduate courses and gain as much knowledge as I can. Another short-term goal is to get a job working with patients. I want to work with patients so that I can begin gaining experience with direct-patient care which is a requirement for PA school. My long-term goal is to apply to PA school.
After extensive research on ETSU’s honors program, I decided that becoming a Buccaneer Scholar is for me. I chose to apply, because the honors program will bring me closer to my dream of becoming a general surgeon by preparing me for the intensity of medical school. In order to succeed at medical school, it is imperative to have passion, confidence, and discipline- qualities that describe an honors scholar. I believe that the challenge of honors will instill the knowledge needed to not only succeed in medical school but throughout my life. Therefore, I chose honors at ETSU as the path that will lead me to my dream.
I would like to join the medPREP program because ever since I was a child I always had an interest in the medical filed. In the future when I pursue college I would like to be as prepared as possible and I believe that med PREP will help do that for me. My personal area of interest is Dermatology. I have chosen to go into this medical field because I have various skin issues myself and would like to learn about these problems, as well as help others understand their skin better.
