On a dark early school morning I wake up to feel a bump on my neck. I think to myself “Is this cancer?” I have this minor issue that I always self diagnose myself. One little faintly bump on my neck and I will be researching what it could possibly be for hours on end. It’s fascinating how we don’t truly know our bodies and what happens to us on a daily basis. This has not been the only occurrence of self-diagnosing myself. The only solution is to make a career out of it. I’ve wanted to become a nurse since my freshman year of high school. The thought of hospitals don’t frighten me and the feeling of shots on my arm doesn’t create discomfort. Being in the nurse’s office calms me. The thought of going to work at a hospital for the rest of
In studying Registered Nursing one will find that they have to be compassionate and want to care for others. Registered Nurses assist physicians with suffering patients of any medical condition. They help to decide the patient’s medicine, treatment, recovery, and educate the them and their families on post-medical treatment. They need to have bedside manner, and be able to prepare patients for surgery. Registered Nursing careers range anywhere from critical care, oncology, mental health, to an everyday school nurse.
Incorporating strategies to have a successful transition is not impossible since nursing is one of the largest part of healthcare. Acknowledging the different transition phases, from phase 1 which starts in school and graduate program and phase 4 which ends in graduation to workplace, would make the novice NP be confident. But the phase that stands out the most is phase 2, that includes confusion, emotional stress, and anxiety. (Poronsky, C. 2013).
The career I am going to pursue will be a Certified Nurse Anesthetist. A CRNA provides anesthesia and related care before, during, and after surgical, therapeutic, diagnostic, and obstetrical procedures (BLS 1). Nurse anesthetists are also referred as advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), before a procedure begins, Nurse anesthetists discusses with a patient of any medications the patient is taking as well as any allergies or illnesses the patient may have, so that anesthesia can be safely administered. Nurse anesthetists then gives a patient the right anesthesia to put the patient to sleep so they feel no pain during surgery or any other procedures. CRNAs remain with the patient throughout a procedure to monitor vital signs and adjust
Role of the Advanced Practice Nurse The role of the advanced practice nurse is very diverse. There are four roles that I am going to discuss in this paper and they are as follows, Nursing Informatics (NI), Nurse Educator, Nurse Administrator, and Nurse Practitioner (NP). According to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Nursing Informatics is defined as a specialty that combines nursing with multiple information management and analytical science.
Despite my young age of just 15, I had the opportunity to respond to any emergency and code in the hospital. I fell in love not only with the adrenaline rush but with the fact that I, a teenager, was experiencing in real life the events that I watched in medical-themed TV shows and movies. Because of my growing interest in the medical field, my mentor provided me with opportunities to observe the work of doctors and other medical professionals in almost every area of the hospital. Luckily, each experience in one area of the hospital lead to even greater opportunities in other areas, some of which few doctors receive. I observed several surgeries- including a gall bladder removal, an exploratory belly, and an open heart surgery-, small procedures in the Cath Lab, and the daily duties in the Radiology, Emergency, Nursing, Intensive Care, Physical Therapy, Pre-Operation, and Post- Operation Units.
Upon graduation from LaGuardia, I plan to begin my career in hospitals and work with children and families as a Registered Nurse. At the same time, I am planning to go at Hunter College to pursue a Bachelor degree in Nursing too. After successfully pursuing the BSN degree, my goal is to study for Physician Assistant and become one. The reason I am choosing this long way is that I want to gain experience as a Registered nurse in hospitals while continuing my higher education to achieve a degree in Physician Assistant. To prepare myself for the nursing career, I have been working on my weaknesses from the very first day of my college.
Since a child I was always held responsible for attending doctor 's appointments with my parents due to their language barrier. Surprisingly, I never felt that responsibility as a burden because hospitals intrigued me. The polar emotions of safety and fear simultaneously, fascinated me. With this awareness when I began taking science courses at North Shore Community College, I found that the subject also fascinated me. The components of liking the hospital and material, had led me to the realization that I had a calling for the medical field.
16. I believe the School of Nursing Committee should approve this application because I am a dedicated student, and my dream is to earn my Bachelors in Science of Nursing (BSN) at Ohio University-Chillicothe (OUC). Nursing has been a dream of mine ever since I was 17 years old (I am now 21 years old). Here is my story. During my senior year of high school I got an opportunity to shadow an intensive care unit (ICU) nurse at Adena hospital in Chillicothe, Ohio.
I am deciding to apply to the University of Wisconsin-Madison because I am intrigued by the opportunities the university has to offer. During my time at UW-Madison I hope to participate in intramural sports, get a job, receive an excellent education, and much more. The city life offers a diverse culture and allows you to learn about and to appreciate life. As I want to be a part of the nursing program I would utilize the opportunity to work at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and to work alongside other students trying to achieve the same goal as I am.
First, it is important to define what it means to be an “Advanced Practice Nurse” in the state of Indiana before we can look at the stipulations set. It is defined as a registered nurse who is currently holding: knowledge acquired from a formal, and organized institution of learning, and additionally, clinical experience, or a stated board approved equivalent.
Large patient loads combined with a stressful work environment affects nurses’ abilities to provide quality healthcare. Patient safety should never be compromised. It is our responsibility to learn from research and improve our current nurse staffing ratios. Nurse staffing is key and affects all other outcomes. Without nurses administering the right treatment at the right time to the right patients, all other healthcare interventions are not effective.

A year ago I had very different goals than I do now, a year ago I had everything all planned out. I was going to become a registered nurse and after working a year or so here in Mississippi I would move to Rhode Island. A year or two down the line, after I had saved up some money, I planned to start taking piloting lessons to get my private pilot’s license (I even knew where I was going to take them at). What I didn’t plan for was failing to pass my 2nd semester of nursing, nor did I plan on using the subsequent semester off (which turned into two semesters off) to decide on a change of major. So now my plans have changed slightly and my goals are a bit different.
Patient care is affected immensely during nursing shift changes. A lot of the time necessary care requirements are unmet. The purpose of this research paper is to determine if the missed care episodes are due to the nursing staffing issues. A literature search on the topic of staffing ratios was conducted. The results are summarized in the paper.
INTRODUCTION The core essence of this contextual assignment is to thoughtfully deliberate on only ten chosen concepts as contained in block 6 (public health nursing management) . In total, there are 12 modules in this current block. Each of the 12 modules consists of three sub-modules out of which the 10 concepts will be taken from. This write-up will properly and applicably elaborate on the nominated concepts by means of considering their impact on my place of professional assignment where I am presently working (Class Clinics & Maternity, Ikotun, Lagos State, Nigeria). It also considers each concept’s worth to the present-day world as well as the latest researches associated to each of them .
